Redo of partitioning scheme

I have been using a folder in my Win7 installation as a common area to store files for both Mint and Win7. It's running close enough to being "full" that I've freed up some space that is currently unallocated. In the current scheme /dev/sdb4 is my /home/kenneth but since I keep very little informati...

Re: Suspend Hibernate problems continue SOLVED!!!

Anyway, I've tried all this and so far I'm stumped. Decided to see if I might find an answer at LinuxQuestions.org and newbie EagleK1 had the answer at this link http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=4585158#post4585158 The answer was so simple it's mind boggling. I had to eject ...

Re: <SOLVED>unlock login keyring LM9

My number 1 nuisance n Ubuntu/Mint - no one needs this paranoid level of protection in Linux, at least it shouldn't be default but an extra option for users who can't sleep with the window open no matter how hot it is and who wear suspenders in case the belt fails them. Go to "Password and Keys" > ...

Re: Win 7 SP1 install faills

Or you can ask microsoft too  ( just a joke ) For only $50 and hour on the phone  But the stand alone installer might be your best bet. I usually do so I can slipstream the original dvd and the service packs together, to make an updated install DVD since you usually have to reinstall the ...

Win 7 SP1 install faills

Running LM9, Win7, WinXP, and Bodhi on two drives on Lenovo X60 laptop. I've been trying to install the Win7 SP1 via the Windows Update for quite some time now. It fails to download and install. I've had similar problems downloading and installing other Windows Updates. Today I downloaded the exe fo...

Re: Quad boot laptop two hdd

[quote="wayne128"] Grab the essense of 'Master boot loader' the one that control Master Boot Record MBR. You have determined LM9 to become the Master boot loader, when you get its grub2 installed onto MBR,, yes, it will appear as the default OS to boot. What happen when you remove drive2? As long as...

Re: NTLDR is missing

After installing, I restarted and remove the USB. I get the message "NTLDR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart". I am not able to boot at all as I am not able to access GRUB. This "NTLDR" message is Windows related. It stands for NT (as in NTFS) Loader. I would guess that the MBR remained bef...

Quad boot laptop two hdd

Prompted by curiosity and bugs in LM12 I made a bunch of changes to my Lenovo X60 laptop. On primary hdd I replaced LM12 with LM9 for its stable release with LTS. This drive shares a Win7 installation. I can swap out the optical drive with a second hard drive using an adapter. That second drive (a 2...

5. I've lost the ability to Print to PDF...one of the great features (before) in every Linux distro I've ever tried. I use the Print to File option and save the document as a PDF file. But yes, the one-click print-to-pdf function would be nice. http://i44.tinypic.com/4zuqt5.png Didn't work for me. ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 "Lisa" released!

Upgrade possible from LM11? Wouldn't recommend upgrading from LM11, especially considering the radical changes from GNOME 2.x to 3.x. Instead, perhaps a fresh install (after thorough backups) would be the way to go. There's a detailed post by Clem on the LM Community site regarding this. (The commu...

Re: Can Partclone clone to an image file with all partitions

Don't know, but if you use Clonezilla instead of partclone it will work. (even though clonezilla uses partclone :?: ) I used Clonezilla to clone and restore a WinXP installation on a 120GB sata drive and restore it to a 250GB ide drive. However the cloned image is a zipped folder made up of many 2G...

Re: How To Install WINE 1.3.* with MInt Debian 64bit?

Used the same principles to install WINE 1.3.29 on i386 architecture and prcedure worked. However when I went to run WINE for the first time I got an error message which was corrected by installing the missing piece. At the end of the install my terminal looked like the install had failed dependency...

Re: Can someone please point me to the how to on a .tar.gz

When you extract it any way, you will be noticed by the inner info like readme etc. to any step-by-step, similar like ./configure make BTW what's the name of the archive? isn't in repo? I'm trying to extract and install WINE v. 1.3.28 because 1.3.27 broke one of my apps and I can't find the older v...

.........I've avoided understanding Mint at a deeper level, just being happy to use it...... Re: Installing Tar.gz and using Synaptic Manger..

Files appended with .tar.gz are called gzipped tarballs, and for the most part, usually contain source code for a program which you have to manually compile and install yourself. The reason that they exist is simply because not all Linux systems use the same package management system as Mint (and a...
