Re: Linux Mint 17.3 SSD boot /sda + /home on /sdb

I'm still stuck using my old /home although the new drive has all my files. When I try to use it by modifying my fstab I'm getting an error that my "$HOME/.dmrc is being ignored" followed by a similar announcement about /home/kenneth/.ICEauthority. Research leads me to believe that there's a problem...

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 SSD boot /sda + /home on /sdb

That part is really fairly simple. Create your new /home partition, and find out the new UUID number for it with the command: CODE: SELECT ALL lsblk -f The lsblk command produces a nice neat listing, almost like a flowchart, but no UUIDs. I even looked at man -k lsblk but found no switches to show ...

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 SSD boot /sda + /home on /sdb

One Optical bay, currently holding my /home; Many USB 2.0 ports where I can plug the 1TB drive using a USB enclosure. From what I've read after I've copied everything over it will just be a matter of editing fstab to reflect the new drive as /home. That's my question: How do I learn and edit the UUI...

Linux Mint 17.3 SSD boot /sda + /home on /sdb

I have what I hope is the final solution for my Lenovo T-520. I run Mint 17.3 installed on an SSD as the first drive in my system. It uses about 11 GB on a 120 GB SSD. There's an extended partition on /sda2 with /sdb5 as a swap partition of 7.71GB. My second hard drive of 500 GB runs in an optical d...

Re: Remove question to switch to mirror server

. Side note: Not in Mint 17 (what you noted), as in Mint 17 the update manager will never ask to switch to a mirror. This function had been introduced only in a later version. Only since finding the box and checking it has update manager stopped asking me to switch to a closer mirror. It had been m...

Re: Remove question to switch to mirror server

@cosmo Open the preferences -> options -> disable the related option (the last one on the page). Running Linux Mint 17 there is no "preference -> options" . I found the appropriate dialog by Menu/Administration/Update Manager then the Edit tab/Preferences/and a checkbox "Don't suggest a switch to lo...

Re: Mint and Windows 10

Thanks to both who replied. Well it seems easy enough to check. For my usage patterns usb2 is fast enough. I already have a is enclosure so that's on tomorrow's agenda.

Re: Mint update dependencies unresolved

After all the steps that Laurent85 guided me through to get the dependencies issue solve having a double entry among my repositories is the least of my worries. It took me a few days to be sure about the dependencies as there were no updates due but when Update Manager showed a couple of updates and...

Re: Mint update dependencies unresolved

That seems logical. I had noticed that the error included that line "ncurses half installed"

That incorrect repository. Is it one that I added or is it among the stock mint repos?

BTW, thanks for your diligence in taking me step by step to this point.

Re: Mint update dependencies unresolved

Looks like ncurses-term package is missing. Try to fix broken dependencies : sudo apt-get install -f Pretty much the same results. However I wonder if line #9 "9 not fully installed or removed" suggests that I need to install (or reinstall) some package. kenneth@kenneth-ThinkPad-T520 ~ $ sudo apt-g...

Re: Starting Over_Lenovo T520 SSD and HDD

Hi! The sreenshots are showing: (if I' m reading the correct numbers) your root partition: used ~ 4 of 111 GB, your home partition: used ~ 5 of 360 GB. You have important Data on your home? If yes, please save it. Afterwards I would boot from your live medium, start GParted and format your root and...

Re: Starting Over_Lenovo T520 SSD and HDD

Hi! 1. For a better understanding, please attach screenshots of your hd and SSD (GParted). 2. If Mint is your single Linux, you must choose as Grub target MBR of the first hd (normally /dev/sda , not /dev/sda1), root partition to install Mint /dev/sda1 and it is possible to choose /dev/sdb2 as home...

SOLVED Starting Over_Lenovo T520 SSD and HDD

Something I did while trying to add a /home partition on a second hard disk to replace the /home directory seems to have gone seriously awry. Re: Lenovo T520 SSD and HDD /home location

Hello krustybaquette - All right, I think I understand what you're trying to do. You have data in the /home directories located in the root partitions of two different Linux OSs on two different disks, and you want to consolidate everything into a single /home partition on the 500GB drive. 1.) Like...
