Re: can I put keepass on a USB jump drive?

I would like ot know if it's possible to have keepass on a flashdrive so I can carry it around with me. It would be convenient to have this to have all my paswords with me if I wanted to check my email on a different computer. KeePass is available in a portable form that will run on Linux, OSX, BSD...

Re: mint backup tool

The last time I upgraded my Mint was from LM9 to LM13, although I'd been on LM11 and went back to LM9 for a while...if my memory serves me correctly. I hadn't used the Mint Backup Tool but simply copied my /home to an external drive after which it was simple enough to copy it back once the new versi...

Re: Which Virtualbox?

Since catweazel and krustybaguette are both advising the same thing, I'll go with that! (Btw I usually find that just clicking on a deb file does the job). Yes, .deb files remind anyone who has used Windows of just 'click on the .exe' file. I know that might seem like heresy to commandline enthusia...

Re: Which Virtualbox?

Running Mint Maya Xfce. There appear to be 3 VB editions available via Synaptic - Virtualbox (4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.5) , Virtualbox-4.1 (4.1.12-77245~Ubuntu~precise) and Virtualbox-ose (4.1.12-dfsg-2ubuntu0.5) . Which should I choose? I run the VBox provided by Oracle https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki...

Update Oracle Virtual Box from Ubuntu repo???

Hello, My Lenovo X60 is running Linux Mint 13 with Oracle's Virtual Box HOST and I am of the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it mentality." Update Manger is showing three VBox updates virtualbox-guest-dkms~x11~utils. The version number associated with these updates is 4.1.12 which is older than my Ora...

Re: Restore Software Selection fails

Problem I have with this is I've been known to add a repository in order to add a program and after the program is installed I remove the repository. The other situation that isn't covered is when you install a program via the gdebi installer, which I view as being more like a Windows file/installer...

Mint 13 with Cinnamon mystery icon in panel

I've encountered a "mystery icon" that appears in my panel after transferring files from my laptop to my Android tablet via Bluetooth. click BT icon/Send files to device/select file/select device to send to. So it obviously has something to do with BT but once it appears in my panel it won't go away...

Re: nightingale as default music player

but it seems you could make your own .desktop file. Just use one of the ones already there as a template And therein lies the rub. I can't find any .desktop files. I opened /usr/share/applications and starting at root I enabled "show hidden files" but nothing new appears with a dot in front as in ....

Re: nightingale as default music player

From the archlinux wiki link I focused on this section. Applications don't appear in the Open With... context menu (of a file manager) Sometimes, a certain application will not appear in the right-click Open With... dialog. To fix this problem, locate the .desktop file in /usr/share/applications, ed...

nightingale as default music player

I have downloaded and installed nightingale (a fork of songbird). I like it particularly as there is an add-on M-Lyrics that lets the user add and edit lyrics, saving them into the mp3 file. "embedded lyrics". I've discovered that these embedded lyrics don't work with Winamp for Android and their ad...

Re: VMware Player and Mint 13

I am trying to install and having the same problem. Check if you have installed the package linux-headers-3.2.0-23-generic (if not, install it). Have already done this after reading a How To at "How To Forge" site. I have tried installing three versions of VMware Player. V. 3.1.6 installed and gave ...

Re: Restore Software Selection fails

Was all the software installed from the standard repos or had you added additional repos? If the latter have you restored these and/if they are still relevant for the precise release of ubuntu? I had added various other repositories, likely those responsible for "could not find packages" so how wou...

Restore Software Selection fails

After a flawless clean installation of LM13_Maya from a usb stick I tried to "Restore Software Selection" from a saved list of software that I stored on a remote hard disk. After starting the backup tool and navigating to the restore file I get a message "Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages...

Re: switch dual boot to virtual win 7

Thanks for your reply. I guess the lingering question in my mind is/was whether getting rid of the Win7 partition with gparted would leave my grub showing it as a boot option. But when I install LM13 I should get a new grub menu.

switch dual boot to virtual win 7

Having pretty much moved to LM11 for 95% of what I do on my laptop I want to make a major change. Here's my current setup: Win7 dual booted with LM11 and running WinXP Pro as a guest in Virtual Box. I have a second removable hard disk which has another Linux installation (Bodhi) and Windows XP Pro. ...

Re: Is it safe to "jump back into LM12"?

In /etc/fstab it's quite straightforward, just replacing /dev/sdXY with UUID= For example here is my fstab on Mint 12: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name de...

Re: Is it safe to "jump back into LM12"?

My Mint 12 uses UUID's to find its partitions, so the changing of /dev/sdXY names doesn't make the system unbootable. I think Mint 13 will do it this way as well. Is it possible to edit grub or other configuration files so they reflect UUIDs rather than the /dev/sdCONVENTION? If so, which files? kb

Is it safe to "jump back into LM12"?

This question is posed because I went from LM11 to LM12 when it was first released but due to an abundance of problems I decided to revert to LM9 until April 2013 when presumably LM13 will replace LM9 as the LTS (Long Term Support) release of LM. Now I've discovered a problem that I think I created ...
