Re: firewall

Nah ... Mini, doesn't make ya stoop. If ya like learning about something, that's what the net is for. I was tired and mostly clowning around when I posted that stuff above anyway. Though do think that link from gn2 looked pretty good. Looked like the person who wrote it was trying to cover a lot of ...

Re: Lightweight LXDE

Thank you nunol ... Have to admit can see the appeal of a DE vs WM at times, for people that like em. What I was babbling about with not knowing how they stack up overall. Yep ... guilty as charged too, am a resource miser and compulsive OS tweaker. So gnu/Linux in all it's wonderous variety is a dr...

Re: Firewall Mint 11 will not stay ON!

Might want to look over that thread I posted above, if you're going to bother enabling it. Doesn't hurt to check it, not that I think it's a big deal either way. Picked up a couple good ufw terminal commands from Vincent there. Just 2 cents ... n no worries.

Re: firewall

Public service post, got this link from a post by gn2. Looked like a fairly decent overview of gnu/Linux security. Am nothing close to an IT sec guru. Don't even wanna be, too lazy to invest the effort. Thought would go ahead and repost it here, case anyone wants the info. http://ubuntuforums.org/sh...

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=80280&p=470725&hilit=+ufw#p470725 btw: Thank you gn2 for that second link, was highly informative and thorough stuff. Though gave me a headache, as I've been reading too much n long already and as am not over concerned with gnu/Linux security issues. ...

Re: Installation problem (dual boot)

Could check out this Actually looked pretty informative, guy seemed pretty thorough too. Also notes in there ( Stage 3) You need easybcd version 2 or higher to boot grub2. What version are you using ? Might not agree with everything he said/likes personally. But still thought it an interesting read....

Re: Firefox always asking if I want to save tabs- Mint12

Try going to FF's control settings.

Click Edit, select Preferences> then tabs> Then uncheck the box for "warn me when closing multiple tabs".

Re: firewall

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=80280&p=470725&hilit=+ufw#p470725 Think by default gnu/Linux comes with all ports closed anyway. Enabling the firewall is only supposed to take a couple clicks in gufw. Don't have much to add here, just throwing out a link that's got some info about u...

Re: Partition mess up

jparks ... Might be better to start your own thread. Maddawg, helps when you clearly describe more about your problem. If people have to play a game of 20 questions to help ya, many won't bother doing it. Though a bunch will try too, just makes it easier for everybody when you help them, help you. B...

Re: Upgrade advice

Have a question for TechnoG ... He already has a swap probably, since has been using LM9. Would the installer detect and use that one ? Agree with Techno on a couple things he's already said. Being LM9's support is really a long way from expiring. If you like it and it's running really well ... some...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

Dang it, last post for awhile, per usual am spacing off more important stuff to babble on pointlessly on a gnu/nix forum. Not meaning to argue, we're actually saying the same thing overall .... choice is good, diversity is good, alternatives and a wide selection are good. I don't even know why all t...

Re: Do I really Need a /boot partition

Do you need a /boot partition ... Imo nope, I never do it, so never bothered learning all that much about it really, generally have a 3 install ( 3 gnu/nix OS's +XP) rule of thumb that I've mostly kept to. Think the most I've ever done was 4 at one time. Got to where it seemed a tad silly having 5 O...

Ahhh it does a heart good I tell ya, this is what a gnu/Linux forum is all about. Bringing pc users everywhere closer together ... How about a group hug ? :D rainbows, rainbows, rainbows ... I had to try the profanity filter for myself too, lol. Definitely looks like the f word is not welcome here. ...
