Re: LM12 disappointment

Hmmm ... some of what was hinted at by Clem ( if that's even him on that pro-buntu blog. I mean the url OMGubuntu, kinda makes that clear.) Actually gives me more reason to like the guy. Politics and gnu/Linux are not new too each other. Really no getting away from them in any area of life, that no ...

Re: Reload Win7 with Ubuntu 11.10 and LinuxMint 11 installed

More than likely will end up having to let it do it's recovery thing. Probably thusly overwriting whatever other bootloader you're using. And rendering your other OS's unbootable. Plenty of ways to go about reinstalling whichever bootloader you prefer no doubt or to a particular partition or whichev...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

Am sure I've posted to this thread already. Not willing to dig through it and find what I thought of it ( at the time ). Just some more of my patent pending babblings and gnu/nix obs. mintnoob wrote:40% vs 60% with almost 100 votes total. I think that's a significant % of Linuxers who agree with my ...

Re: Lightweight LXDE

Usually try to avoid discussing other distro's here on LM forum. Since it's already been introduced though, feel the need to pipe up on Crunchbangs behalf. Cuz I really like what the guy over there distributes, he has a new release out now. Haven't tried it yet, still using the last one Philip aka: ...

Re: System/Memory Requirements

Am sure nunol already covered whatcha needed to know. Personal opinion, don't even bother thinking about one of the LM main releases with 256mbs of RAM, it'll run horribly on that. You'd be wasting your time even bothering to install it ( with nunol's patented set up a swap partition before install....

Could try this kinda stuff. flushing dns cache or updating dns etc. Might not hurt to go ahead and clear cache/etc in the browsers too. DId you write to that email address posted above ? The site owner has probably seen this kinda thing before and may be able to give ya some tips. http://support.hos...

Look on the brightside, you have some new coasters. :D Messing round, have no experience w LM12, mucho people are apparently enjoying it. Guessing for every problem post ya see, there are plenty of users of the software having a smooth experience so they never post for or against or even bother join...

Re: Want to install LM12 for dual boot but...

Found summin, while was googling to try to form and an opinion of this. http://hedayatvk.wordpress.com/2011/11/15/grub-2/ Am assuming Fedora16 comes with os-prober already by default. At least it should, apparently that's the software responsible for grub2 detecting other OS's ... blahblah. So not e...

Re: Want to install LM12 for dual boot but...

Doubt I'll try Fedora, isn't high up on my things to bother with list anyway ... Dunno if their area of focus is gnu/Linux for the masses, like LM is opting for it seems. Which is a fine and noble purpose imo and what I've tried of LM was a pleasant experience. Well hopefully the dual boot goes well...

Re: Why Upgrade?

Dunno really what to reply, while dumping time here by far and main. LM HQ no doubt does what they can, much of the heavy lifting for the gnu/nix software they config and distrib is done upstream or long since been done before. Based on my limited experience w LM 10, would say they are doing what th...

Re: Installing Mint in partitions......again!

Junk like this is why I suggested leaving the d: partition alone. Didn't want to try to identify and sort out what purpose it serves. Though googling PC model +relevant files is likely what I'd have done if faced with a situation like that. Or would've gone w what I'd described above. Only ever done...

Nother post ... out of sheer boredom mainly. But also incorp a pro-gnu/Linux and why rant. :D What you're experiencing and that silly credit card commerical ... Needless to say have zero parallels imo. Mint HQ did not offer ya something and then pull something shady. You came to them, to use the sof...

Re: Want to install LM12 for dual boot but...

LM uses the same, looked it up and yep ... Apparently Fedora is now using grub2, shrugs. There goes that plan ... arghhh. Don't believe have ever tried Fedora. So don't know if it'd be smooth sailing or not. Can't see any reason it shouldn't be though. Would still lean towards leaving Fedora in char...

Re: Want to install LM12 for dual boot but...

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=245178 It's from 2010, if Fedora is still using grub legacy as the bootloader, which is still my fav atm. Though grub2 isn't as bad as I thought it was for a long time. Anyway if that's so, then what I'd advise ya do and of course is only an opinion. Bu...

Re: What are the steps to install to a partition already cre

Google gparted, will show you how to format a partition in a couple mins of googling and reading, look over those how to's. You need / root cause that's how it works. That's where a good chunk of the most important files for gnu/Linux go. If you want to use gnu/Linux there you have it, you'll have t...
