Re: Game Installations

I think the live cd has partion software that will let you rezise things. You could also use the gparted live cd . Alternately you could copy the game folder to home, delete the game game folder in /usr/games that you copied. Then symlink it sudo ln -s /home/username/games /usr/games You will have t...

If I did that half the sites with videos I visit would not work. I like the idea of flash becoming obsolete, but it isnt quite to that point yet.

Re: Howto replace all Gnome 3 panels with the AWN dock

If you have a problem with compiz or driver on your system, in this case your system open automaticly with AWN fallback session. Or may not want to install compiz on your system at that time have to choose this AWN fallback session. 1. If you have compiz on your system, you use it, no need for a fa...

Re: HDD failing

Sounds like its really bad, you may have lost everything on it. You could try and use partimage to take a image of the drive, but if you cant open it , its likely past that.

Re: Gparted Help Desired

From what I have read the Zorin install created a /boot partition. My advice is to leave it be for now, especially if it isnt that big. You can always delete it later and expand one of the other partitions.A word to the wise, never mess with a mounted partition, like the one the operating system you...

Re: Installing WINE

Wine is an application layer, there isnt really a "wine" entry in the menu. It isnt a program with a gui, It just allows you to run exe files.
As a side note, you might want to check out PlayOnLinux , its a wine front end that helps install games and other applications.

Re: Howto replace all Gnome 3 panels with a dock

Exactly what is the difference in your session with effects and the instructions that I gave above? Secondly who will want to run a dock without effects, and if they dont have them enabled why have 2 separate logins?

Re: gnome-mahjong quit responding

First open a terminal and type in the following to see if we can get an error

First try

gnome-mahjongg

Next try

mahjongg

Let me know if you get any error messages in the terminal.

To minty33 Sorry if I came off as blaming you, or saying you were scaring someone, it wasnt my intention. Sometimes what we say can lead others to do things we had no intention of happening. In my experience, people moving to Linux from windows are kind of hyper sensitive to the word virus. They hav...

Re: error message on software installation

How would I go about finding out which package is causing the problem? That may be hard if you are not using the command line apt-get. But there is a way to wipe out all the packages you have downloaded to be installed. Most of the time they are just taking up drive space. Open a terminal and type ...

Yep, and I am happy that nothing extra gets installed on Linux. Im not sure of its method of attack on Windows, but thats what it infects, Windows.

Re: Greetings from a tru Ubuntu Refugee

Welcome to Mint from another past Ubuntu user. The tunnel vision at Ubuntu has been around for quite some time imho. What has happened in the last 2 years is it has gotten worse. Even discussing and posting of opinions contrary to the established path has been looked down upon. Old time users who vi...

One nice thing about linux is that its all free, including filtering software so young kids dont accidentally see a site they probably never should see. I have dansguardian installed on my daughters ever since she trie...

Re: booting windows 8 developer preview with mint

No, it would be no different. A disk image is a disk image. Linux just sees a .iso file and burns it without caring what it is. My thoughts are the files you are burning were corrupted during download (you got a bad download) or you are burning them at a very fast speed that can cause errors. Be awa...

Re: Call Me Old School

Ok your old school Now that thats out of the way, let me agree with you on a few points. Unity is the absolute worst interface known to man. It has no flow and is unusable as a means to get things done. Perhaps wanting to get work done is a thing of the past, because Unity gets in the way of doing t...
