Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Is there (or could there be) an "official' sticky instruction for safely saving /home for insertion to Mint 19, when it is released. I have moderate talent, but am always willing to become smarter! Another option is having multiple install partitions. I have 3 drives and one is a SSD. Its only 120g...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

I really wish the Linux Mint 19.x will keep the use of system resources to a minimum. Make sure the least memory is used, the less background processes the better and everything is lean and fast. This minimalism approach is the best thing to do. Each to his own taste. It seems that the lightweight ...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Partitions and symlinks can make a nuke and reinstall much faster than an upgrade. I have folders like Documents. .mozilla, .thunderbird and others on a separate partition. Mount it in fstab and just symlink them into the home folder.

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

A 32 bit CPU CAN NOT run a 64 bit OS. Just not possible. No exceptions, no caveats. so hardware that was based on win-xp, is pretty much obsolete now, Nonsense. XP had a 64bit edition. How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system ...

Re: Linux Mint 19 codenamed “Tara”

Hello @ Clem - I have a question about LM 19 Tara. It appears that Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Desktop will only be available as 64 bit. Will Linux Mint 19 follow suit, or are you guys working on 32 bit versions as well? I've been curious about this, since I have an HP Mini laptop that's 32 bit. It appears th...

Re: Firefox. search engine keeps reverting to Startpage

I was hoping for a fast fix. The truth is I'm tired of of fooling with it. Thanks for the help, but I got rid of Mint last night and put Ubuntu Mate in. I thought I would never install Ubuntu again after the Unity bannings. All it took was an hour to setup everything as I had it thanks to my partiti...

Re: Firefox. search engine keeps reverting to Startpage

That is one of the things I tried and it still did it. This has been going on for a few weeks. While it is a minor issue, its a nagging one. I have done an extensive search and cant find the answer. It may just be faster to move to another distro with Mate.

Firefox. search engine keeps reverting to Startpage

Let me start out by saying I am not a newbie. I am a long time Linux user that started out on Ubuntu Breezy Badger. Mint Mate 18 64bit The Problem. The search engine preferences keep getting changed back to Startpage. I have changed them to Google. I have deleted all the other search engines includi...

Re: TortoiseHG from debian

Since LMDE is based on Debain testing you should be able to add the repo's (if they are not already there) and install the packages. Though I would deactivate the repos after installing the applications. The reason is that Mint tries to stay on the stable side of testing. a wholesale upgrade from te...

Simple, dont run Mate, run the Gnome 3 fallback mode. Mate is a work in progress, meaning its going to have issues.

Mate is a work in progress as explained in the release notes. Have fun in Unity land, just dont post anything negative about Unity on the Ubuntu forums if you like to remain a member there..

Re: upgrade to 12-Lisa is downgrade

Mate is a work in progress, its in the release notes. You would probably not have the same issues with the fallback gnome 3 session. If you go looking for a gnome 2 distro, the only one you will find is Debian stable, but that has issues as a lot of the programs are very old versions. You would prob...

Re: Grub installed on wrong partition. HELP!

You don't need Grub in the MBR to boot Linux. EasyBCD installed in Windows with the Windows native bootloader in the MBR will boot a Linux installation, and if it won't, all you need to do is install Grub into / on the linux partition. http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Linux No, but if your alr...

For them you would have to add the Mint repositories I believe. Mint uses the Ubuntu repositories, and adds its own.

Re: How can I create Local Repo

You could always look for a solution for Ubuntu since Mint is based on Ubuntu all the applications will be available, then edit the repositories to add the Mint ones.

This pagewhile dated has one solution.
