Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

So instead of choosing to change what shell extensions are loaded to eliminate whatever you didnt like, you are going to run Unity, the worst desktop since Windows Bob?

If you use a Windows disk to "fix" the MBR grub will be removed and you will only be able to boot windows.

But since its a lts you would expect that since they rarely add major new stuff, they are more focused on bug fixing and stability. Now if only they would scrap that awful Unity desktop.

Re: Grub installed on wrong partition. HELP!

This application may be helpful as Mint is based on Ubuntu. It installs and runs on my Mint 12 install (takes forever to start), but I havent used it to change anything. Make sure to look at the advanced settings. There is also a live cd. Also shouldnt you install it to the root of the drive, sda, ...

Re: Possible to install vmware for Windows using Wine?

I dont think it will work, even if it does install, and then starts, the overhead will make it run so poor it will likely be useless.

Re: Possible to install vmware for Windows using Wine?

I think it would be a better idea to install one of the free (as in beer) vmware applications like vmware server than try running a windows version in wine. Also while your friend may have a copy, is it legal to use his copy? Is it licensed just to him?

Re: My own distro (of sorts)

You might want to read this post and ask questions there. You might also just want to package up the differences and make an install script as opposed to making a full distro disk.

The Update manager ranks updates and those that are deemed possible of causing bugs are given a little time to make sure they wont.

Re: Logitech Marble mouse working in other distro, not Mint

Glad you found a distro that works for you. But for others that may find this thread in the future, Mint is based on Ubuntu, Ubuntu is based on Debian. So if the issue comes up, creating the file in a text editor should work on Mint as well.

Re: Installing MINT12 (64bit) to replace Ubuntu 11.10 (64Bit

Hi Ivan 1 and 2 - Just run the install disk and when you get to the partitioning section you can delete the Ubuntu partition if you want. If all you have on the drive is Ubuntu you can let Mint have the whole disk if you want to remove Ubuntu. You could also install them side by side in their own pa...

Re: Which Package to use to Install 686 Kernel?

Just a curious question. Why are you not running the 64bit version on that hardware? Do you really want to hobble a 64bit processor with a 32bit operating system?

The Broken Packages is a big issue open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get update

A lot of things work normal if not all. But posting questions that do not solve issues is a waste of time.
