Re: Is LMDE suitable for daily usage ?

MintUpdate-Debian doesn't use levels or rankings anymore (for months now) Its probably happened after I uninstalled and went with Mint 11 because of the constant nagging bugs. Nothing that couldnt be fixed, but I would rather use applications than fix issues. But the advice in my last comment is st...

Re: remove Windows 7 and install linux

It may not be necessary to actually remove Windows 7. During the Mint install let Mint have the whole disk, that will wipe out Windows. When you are finished installing Mint, run the Zorin install disk, shrink the Mint partition, and create one for zorin. But if you are a new linux user my advice to...

Re: Is LMDE suitable for daily usage ?

Either way is a bad idea for some users imho because Apt-get and aptitude bypasses the ranking in the mint update application. Apt or Aptitude will just blindly update all released upgraded packages regardless of the possibility of them causing bugs. Those that want a more stable experience, that ha...

Apt and Aptitude is a fast way to introduce a ton of bugs into LMDE. I tried it and found I was fixing issues a few times a week.

Re: Is LMDE suitable for daily usage ?

That depends, if you like a very up to date system and cant wait for release packs and will rely on update tools like apt-get with no tollerance for bugs, no, stick with Mint 11. There isnt a lot of difference and Mint 11 will be rock solid stable.

If you like games that run on Windows I would put that at the top of the to do list. Go to the Playonlinux website to get the latest client.

Re: Lisa: where did the printer menus go?

yes, but meanwhile I've totally failed with Ubuntu 11.1; spent a whole day sorting it out and loading mint; now I can't get the printer to work. Sometimes I really feel like defecting back the MS empire. Open a browser and type in localhost:631 and hit enter, enter your username and password you lo...

Re: inkjet printer

I used to repair printers/copier before blowing out 3 disks in my back. Go with a laser if you can, they have come down in price a lot. I have a samsung 2525 that I got for $69 bucks from tigerdirect last year. Inkjets are fine if you use them constantly, otherwise the ink dries or is used up cleani...

Re: Old computer will run windows 7 Ultimatte but not Linux

Comparing Windows 7, build on the XP code base that has been around and tweeked to run on netbooks in a very low graphics mode to a Gnome 3 distro which is very new, practically beta software in Windows terms, and loaded with graphic effects, is comparing apples to oranges. Try putting Vista on the ...
