Re: Can't get Mint12 to run... (suspect graphics problem)

Just a question, did you check the md5sum of the disk image before you burned it?

Re: Display settings

If in the top left hand corner you see "Applications" and "Places" you are in fallback mode and you need to make sure the proprietary drivers are active. Go to the System settings, Hardware Drivers to check it.

Re: New awesome "template" gone.

Then the video driver is not installed correctly because you are ending up in the fallback mode.

When you login make sure you have the gnome 3 session you were using selected and not the fallback mode it is currently in.

Re: Mint 12 on Acer Aspire 722, Win7 Starter, MultiBoot

I would suggest letting grub install in the mbr of sda, there is really no other good option. People in the past would sometimes use a boot floppy, but floppys are long gone and if it gets lost you are sol. You will get an option of what os you want to load. You can then setup the free space as a me...

Re: Lisa: where did the printer menus go?

The problem we all face though is that every gnome based distro has moved or will move to gnome 3 at some point. I agree its much better than the disaster that is Unity. But its still new and it will get work, everything matures over time.

Re: Mint Position Changed on DistroWatch

I know this may sound wierd.. but that is something id expect Microsoft or Apple to do. Not a linux distro. I mean seriously. If i make a product (free or pay) and I have a large majority of my userbase telling me "Hey this sucks big time" the smartest thing for me to do is listen, ask ok why dose ...

Re: Extending a LAN network

True altair4, but the original poster was worried that the ip addresses would change. That will never happen if you setup static ip addresses for your network. Granted it may not happen, but better to be prepared imho. @henkoegema a hub assigns ip addresses with its own dchp server, a switch just gi...

Re: Mint Position Changed on DistroWatch

Not a real shock as Ubuntu is no longer listening to its users in any way shape or form. Its now a bannable offense to complain about Unity on its forums, they call it unity trolling now. What is shocking imho is looking at the last 30 days results, over 5k hits on Mint, thats way above everyone. Ju...

Re: Lisa: where did the printer menus go?

Gnome shell is still in its infancy, there will hopefully be more added over time. Until then you can access the cups interface in your browser and change a lot more settings. Open a browser and type in localhost:631 and hit enter.

I have never gotten sambqa working like it should. If all you have to share to is linux machines you might want to try nfs.

Re: Extending a LAN network

If you setup the ip's as static in the router (highly recommended) they never change. If not, and say you loose power, they can all reset to different numbers. This page might be helpful.

Re: Game Installations

[Edit] Ah, I didn't read Kilz post to the end. Well, that MIGHT work. Not the best solution, but you might as well try that first. I'm a bit worried about package updates, though, and where new games will go... with a symlink everything should work good. While the folder will be in the home directo...

Re: Allocating more space to Linux Mint

You can use the Gparted live cd to do it. Its best to use a live cd as messing with partitions on a mounted disk is ify at best. It will also take forever to resize the partitions.
