new user won't be able to access the old user's files without some fiddling.
That is correct, but that doesn't pertain to OP as his user is not trying to access files that belong to another user.

Thanks hayden, that's the most concise method I've seen, no messing around copying files from old user to new user.
You're welcome. I didn't copy any files, though.

faster repo mirror? SOLVED

Hi

In Debian you can use the redirector repo to get the lowest latency mirrors. Is there something like this available in Mint? If not, how else can I find the fastest mirrors for my Mint machine?

Thanks

Re: Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

What I'm trying to do is make the Mate Desktop on my Debian 8 look like the Mate Desktop on my Linux Mint Debian Edition. I dont know why it looks so different on both systems. The only thing I can think of is that Linux Mint has a custom Mate desktop that does not look at all like Gnome 2, which is...

Mate on LMDE 17.1 vs Debian Jessie

I have Mate 1.8.1 installed on both my main host OS Debian 8 Jessie and on my guest OS (virtual box) LMDE 171. The Mate's look completely different. The one on Debian Jessie looks more like Gnome 2 and the Mate in LM looks newer and more modern, I'd like them both be the newer looking one, but not s...

Re: Network Manager, static IP problem

Good thing is I have two ssd's, one with debian jessie which is the one I'm using most of the time because I can connect to all my networks. The other ssd is my LM install which I am wanting to transition to as my normal SSD, but not until I figure out the wireless problem.

Any suggestions?

Network Manager, static IP problem

On my Debian Jessie install I don't have this issue, its only with LM 17.1 amd64 w/ KDE. I need to connect to several different wireless networks for my work. I cannot use DHCP, it has to be set manually on these networks. In Network Manager, there is an option for manual IP, but there is nowhere to...

Re: How to update BIOS?

Thank you for the replies. I have also heard that it can "brick" the motherboard if done incorrectly which I really don't want to. The reason I was thinking of doing this is because of video issues I am having. Ive reimaged my machine with Mint 13 and still having the issue.
