Re: Port 22 How to open it?

Hello bradleyrose https://thumb.ibb.co/dA8CQ8/hello.gif Welcome to Linux Mint and the Linux Mint forum :) Ports are open, it's a question if any process is listening on it. Run pgrep sshd in the terminal. If you don't get any results then install sudo apt-get install openssh-server You can also run ...

Re: Low Disk Space Warning

Well, I'm stumped :?

It could have been a one-time anomaly because there's nothing hogging space.

Re: Low Disk Space Warning

Unless there's something in one of the previously excluded folders, I see no reason fo low space warnings :?

What does

Code: Select all

sudo du -hd0 /{mnt,media,tmp}
and

Code: Select all

for x in /media/*; do mountpoint $x;done
return

That looks OK.

What does

Code: Select all

sudo du / -hd1 --exclude={proc,dev,media,mnt,sys,tmp,run,cdrom}|sort -h
and

Code: Select all

mount|grep -w /
return.

Re: Low Disk Space Warning

PC #2 - This my "older" computer with a new 320gb HD and mint 19.2 installed. IT is not a dual boot machine. Though I dont recall selecting it as an option, LVM is installed. When the message popped up on this machine I clicked on the disk usage analyser, closed it and it has not popped up again to...

Re: SOLVED - Can't boot after recent 19.2 updates - Error - directory is encrypted

Although when I try this, it returns: tune2fs: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda Found a dos partition table in /dev/sda Should I use different parameters? Your linux partition should be something like /dev/sda2 - /dev/sda is the block device (disk) Use the following to ...

OpenShot Video Editor is probably your best bet - it's not to difficult to use.

Re: MDM could not write to your authorization file

You will not be able to run fsck from the root recovery option because /dev/sda5 cannot be unmounted.

Again, boot the installation/live session and run sudo e2fsck -fvy dev/sda5 in the terminal.

When done sudo reboot and try booting normally.

Re: MDM could not write to your authorization file

The installation media is the usb/dvd that you used to install Mint.

If you don't have the original installation version you can use the latest Mint version.

It would be easier working from there in case more information is required.

If you want to try fsck from the recovery menu that's fine.

Re: SOLVED - Can't boot after recent 19.2 updates - Error - directory is encrypted

Having a periodic check of the partition will help

sudo tune2fs -c35 /dev/sd?? will set the partition to be checked during boot after 35 mounts then reset back to one.

Replace ?? with the partition designation.

Sorry for my lame comment, but how can I do this?
Boot the installation media and paste back sudo blkid to identify the Linux partition.

Re: MDM could not write to your authorization file

Your filesystem went read only so there could be some sort of problem.

Boot the live media and try to mount it to /mnt from there and check the mount command to see if it's mounted rw.

Re: boot malfunction

ox85,

Just to clarify your error - you used a lower case 'c' in sudo e2fsck -fvc0y /dev/sda3

My line was sudo e2fsck -fvC0y /dev/sd?? - an upper case 'C'

In any event /dev/sda3 would not have worked with the encrypted /dev/mapper/mint--vg-root

Glad to see you got it straightened-out :wink:

Try booting the installation media and run sudo e2fsck -fvC0y /dev/sd?? on your Linux partition.

Replace the ?? with the proper device designation.
