Re: Why do we need so much help...

Yes, the planet has warmed up and cooled down before. Life has managed to get carried here with some asteroid or get started on a puddle and evolve. Life will probably be just fine until the Sun goes caput at some point. And yet, that's not the point exactly, is it. We are humans and there are alrea...

Re: Firefox not playing some videos

http://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-40050903/see-the-world-through-adventurers-eyes Was the first video that I saw on the site and it played fine. Link to a video that doesn't play for you to be more precise. I'm using the latest, the version you mentioned, and I have ublock-origin and firegestures as ...

Re: Set Edge/Corners of Screen for HDMI to TV using Desktop PC

The "custom/adjusted screen" is just a name for the direct input mode in my list of options, others being the 16:9, ... . There are no custom settings I can make is what I mean. And my Samsung was purchased about 7 years ago cheaply, as it was an older model then. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse. ...

Re: Set Edge/Corners of Screen for HDMI to TV using Desktop PC

It does, the problem is in the Nvidia settings. My TV settings are set to overscan off, and 16:9 and I am getting almost all of the screen except for part of the toolbar on the bottom. ....... Ok, if you're sure. I'm just saying that If I choose 16:9 (and it is this ratio physically) from my TV I c...

Re: What does "afar" stand for in the context of subtitles?

@rene: You might be on to something. And now I'm jealous that I didn't think about this. The sites web player reads the language info from the subtitle it loads (probably varying sources and formats) and if it can't find anything it defaults to this. As it very well might the first one on some list....

Re: Set Edge/Corners of Screen for HDMI to TV using Desktop PC

Make sure the TV has the correct "picture size" or whatever it's called in your model. For my Samsung I have the 16:9, 3:4 etc and the one that means just direct output from what it receives (hdmi) is called (custom, or adjusted - I'm trying to think of a good translation from finnish here).

...... Can you play the downloaded file? Tried just now, but no. Maybe it doesn't download properly (I used Firefox) and that's why the "such and such does not exist" errors, but vlc can retrieve it just fine? Don't know how those processes work so just guessing. I got it played with vlc: Strange. I can play the URL directly with vlc, but if I wget the file then open it, vlc says "VLC can't recognize the input's format: The format of 'file:///home/username/installcheck.mov' cannot be detected. Have a look at the log for details." There's no "*vlc*log" file ...

Re: Questions about setting up HD's for Linux

If you plan to have a "main" OS, Mint KDE in you case, and a legacy bios setup, why not just leave all your drives plugged in when you install it or later do a sudo update-grub and have it's grub make an entry for all the OSs you have available. You can still boot drives the way you do at the moment...

So you want persistence but it has to be done with dd? I'm sorry, I'm still confused what you're asking. :? With sticks you have different options: full, normal install (with as much "persistence" as there's space); live-image with storage partition (no persistence to settings, but room to save stuf...

Re: Firefox: Connection is not secure

Where are you hosting your avatar image? I get the same, so my guess is it's your picture.

Edited to add: Never mind that guess. I went looking at other posts and even with a single post with no avatar, links or anything, still the triangle remains. Well maybe someone has answers.
