Re: Mintin palautus edelliseen versioon?

En usko, että onnistuu mitenkään "kätevästi". Varmasti paras vaihtoehto on asentaa 17 uudelleen. Jätä formatoimatta, niin asetustiedostot pitäisi olla kutakuinkin mitä sinulla oli ja jos siellä jotain tiedostojakin oli niin ovat sitten edelleen. Tosin tietysti sinulla on varmuuskopiot kaikesta tärke...

Re: Why is it so hard to use Linux?

I don't know why you would have to install Wine to play a game on Facebook. Facebook games run in your browser, and should play with any modern browser, which, of course, you didn't have because you chose not to update your system. That's what I thought, but they also have some other stuff (dunno a...

Re: Why do we need so much help...

.............. but what made that primitive man want to cure things it never experienced itself? Say, a pregnant woman's morning sickness? Is it for favours or friendship or maybe food? Actually I've just realised an answer of sorts, but I'll see what others say. Anyway, all the replies have given ...

Re: Why is it so hard to use Linux?

I don't understand why Mint is hard to use for many people. Many of which migrate with having used Xp and win7 in the past. When I first started (Ubuntu and then almost immediately Mint) using linux, I just continued clicking away in the "same" places that I had with win7. It took years before I sta...

It reminds me of the concept of native speakers of Esperanto... and yes, those exist, too! The question itself is most likely above my paygrade but I can help you from getting jabs regarding the picture quality. Load the images to a hosting site, such as imgur (preferably use the https version). Then post the link to the image inside the "Img" tags. This will make a clickable thumb...

Re: Unknown feature

I typed "aaaaaaaa" just to show the box. Can it be removed entirely? Why would you need to type whilst the focus is on the desktop without this (possibly) useful search feature appearing? I'm only asking since this topic was the first time I myself discovered this feature and made a mental note in ...

Welcome to the forums! ........ We both like the Mate desktop that sort of works like XP did. .......... In that case, if you haven't already, you should check out the Xfce too. .......... The only thing I'd do different is plan a bit further ahead, read a bit more, and install 64-bit. (I foolishly ...

Yes, and if it's usb you want to update and run as a "normal" install for some reason (no judging), then there's the possibility to do a normal install to the stick.

And welcomes to the forums!

Re: amd64microcode firmware

If it says the device is "not working" how then can I even use my computer at all? It's "not working" because it (the microcode) isn't installed yet . . :) I understand what you're saying, but if it is the CPU, then how could I be able to use the computer at all if the CPU device is not working? Re: Linux Mint 18 Reboots In Response to Shutdown Command

I thinks that you need an argument in addition, and the sudo shouldn't be necessary if it's not LMDE, and further still you should mention the DE.

Try:

Code: Select all

shutdown -h now

I would like to know my way around all the command line ins and outs, and try to think of ways of motivating myself to learn more, but the reality is that as it is not needed, I don't learn much new stuff. For me regular computer use is pretty much limited to pressing an icon to launch a program and...

Re: Date/Time change

I think it's "system settings" under settings in the menu, that is being referred here. That gives you a view with 4 groups of all the settings across the board. Okay I just realized after posting this, that you're using Xfce (great choice btw). I'm not booted into one at the moment (but Cinnamon) s...

Re: Cannot get my PC to boot from USB

... Another option is to see if your BIOS offers a Boot Menu at startup. For example, I know on my PC that if I keep tapping F8 during power up, I'll eventually be presented with a Boot Menu offering to boot from Internal Hard Drive, USB, CD/DVD, Network, etc., regardless of what the priority is in...

Re: Cannot get my PC to boot from USB

I had to look up the usb-fdd etc. in your post and google gave some info: STEP 6: BIOS SETTINGS Depending on the BIOS of your computer, you can set the USB stick as a boot device. If your PC's BIOS does not seem to support this, check if there is an update available. For some reason most BIOS prefer...
