Re: Gnome patent troll

I am thinking about running for Dictator. If I do, and if I become Dictator, then I will happily slap down Rothschild for this nonsense. Also, Apple will libre-license iOS and write all the necessary components to make Apple Watches work perfectly on Purism's PureOS, as well as Android OS. Also also...

Re: U.S. Navy Patents Compact Fusion Reactor

No, because E=mc2. You put matter in and energy comes out. That doesn't really answer my question. I get that putting something into a system can get you energy out of that system. I'm just talking about being able to get way more energy out than what you put in. Perhaps it's how the article descri...

Re: Gnome patent troll

I'd sure like to know what the patent troll patented. Neither Clem's blog nor the underlying Gnome blog talks about any specifics. Mind you, I'm against any abusive patent, whether for software or anything else. I'm also against abusive copyright laws and take serious objection to Disney's — and oth...

Re: U.S. Navy Patents Compact Fusion Reactor

What I'm scratching my head over is how you get more energy out than what you put in. Doesn't that violate conservation of energy or some other fundamental scientific principle? Mind you, I'm all for fusion energy. In fact, something like what the Navy is proposing, but just massively scaled down, m...

Re: Timeshift and Flatpaks: more trouble than they're worth?

I've never understood why Timeshift would want to use the system drive to do a backup of the system. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? I have it configured to use an external 1 TB disk, and in my view it should eliminate the system drive as a candidate location altogether. Initially when I re...

Wired: Scientists Now Know How Sleep Cleans Out Brain Toxins

Wired.com: Scientists Now Know How Sleep Cleans Toxins From The Brain What she discovered was that during non-REM sleep, large, slow waves of cerebrospinal fluid were washing over the brain. The EEG readings helped show why. During non-REM sleep, neurons start to synchronize, turning on and off at t...

This board's host has a history of oddball connectivity issues. I've personally room afoul of them in the past and a VPN was not a factor.

My point was this: this is an ancient presentation by someone who isn't even alive any longer, so arguing about it is kind of pointless.

Re: Steve Jobs saying Mac OS X Linux like OS

I posted on some Linux related forums that in first ever Mac OS X presentation Steve Jobs said it is "Linux like" operating system . Almost all replies were no he said "Unix-like" . Now I have found that video again .Please listen at 3:00 and let me know the context In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kh...

Re: Food for thought - debunking some folk-science

I'm not going to enter the discussion here regarding physics. I'm not qualified to even hold an opinion, and in any event lack the math skills and other background data to begin to comprehend any of it on anything more than a philosophical level. However, I will opine on a few specific things. I gre...

Re: "1.5 trillion times faster" quantum computer

That's going to be the new minimum system requirement for MS Orifice 365 v. 2.0. When I realize what problems text processing programs still have with their corrections and linguistic adaptations - the quantum computer really seems to be the quantum leap. https://brianofmorbius.files.wordpress.com/...

Re: Halloween: What are you planning?

We used to have Sint Maarten , but as a tradition that is being pushed out by the imported Hallowe'en. Yes, I'm bitter. It used to be so much fun. Look at those faces. I've never celebrated All Hallows Eve, so I'm certainly not about to do the Halloween thing. It seems to be more of an American tra...

Halloween: What are you planning?

I'm sort of curious what my fellow Linux Minters are planning for this Halloween, which is nearly upon us. Also, since this is an international forum, I'm curious about what different cultures' traditions are. I have a job that sees me getting up very early every weekday (and therefore going to bed ...

Re: Dyslexia and computers

I've seen that font before. If ever there was a force for good on this planet, it's the Free Software community. When I look at this typeface, it looks like a gothic written by hand - with a pen and watery, not covering ink. For those with dyslexia, perhaps constructed fonts are too static, too acc...

Re: Why are programs allowed to overtake processor and memory to the point of stalling the system?

I think the point Morgan King is trying to get at is: why would the system grant resources which would lead to its own detriment? or perhaps why would the system be capable of granting such resources?

I guess I'm kind of curious, too, what the legitimate answer to this will be.

Re: Dyslexia and computers

Many, many years ago, I worked for OfficeMax and I can remember very well having a customer having me take red, green, and blue Astrobright color sheets and making color copies into transparency material. This had the effect of creating pastels of those colors. Another customer and his son came up t...
