Re: No Partition Table on live image flash drive... ?!?!?

Downloaded Enso OS ISO and burn to USB with USB Image Writer and was able to boot into the Enso live session in legacy mode with UEFI with CSM mode on my Elitebook 840 G1. Changed the boot option to UEFI only (no CSM) and was unable to boot into USB. Looks like Enso is legacy BIOS/CSM only with no ...

[SOLVED] No Partition Table on live image flash drive... ?!?!?

I ran across an article the other day on Enso OS, which is another Ubuntu-based distro that uses XFCE and a variety of other combined bits assembled with an eye to working well and also looking very nice. I wanted to check it out myself, so I downloaded and flashed the ISO to a known-good flash driv...

Re: What Fonts are you using?

I'm a font junkie, and have been since high school. I try to use libre licensed ones where possible, but I use whatever is necessary to get the job done. Honestly, I can't imagine a system without a lot of fonts installed on it.

Re: [Solved] Need Help With LO Calc and the VLOOKUP Function

I'm guessing that you are a bit of a Trekkie, along with smatterings for Dr Who and a few other popular shows. :D You missed the Babylon 5 references!  Looks like a great project for a database. I'm guessing that the details of the store address are re-used regularly, along with audit t...

Re: Need Help With LO Calc and the VLOOKUP Function

Don't use lo, but have used Excel for many years. Assuming vlookup is the same, you are looking up a range from column A to M = 13 column s. Your lookup is trying to return column 14 hence the error. Expand the width of the range you are looking up. Also, I always set the range lookup flag to false...

Re: Need Help With LO Calc and the VLOOKUP Function

Silly question. Why persist with a spreadsheet for database functionality when you have a perfectly good database as part of the Office Suite? Everything I'm dealing with, vis a vis my job, revolves around spreadsheets. To be honest, I've never given any thought to using LO's database program. Besi...

[Solved] Need Help With LO Calc and the VLOOKUP Function

Background: The better part of three years ago, I created a tool — in actuality, a spreadsheet — for use with my job. I've since gone on to create several tools, which over time I evolved and developed, and which have now been reduced to their final state, with just two used for my entire personal ...

Re: Is the Tenth Planet Really a Bowling Ball-sized PBH?

What did the one black hole say to the other black hole? Nothing, you fool. Black holes don't talk. How did the one black hole know the other black hole was pregnant? Time was dialated. Whose was the little black hole? Schwartz Child. What was the last thing that went through the bug's mind when it ...

Is the Tenth Planet Really a Bowling Ball-sized PBH?

Not content with putting out speculation that gamma rays escaping from around a black hole may be traveling faster than the speed of light, the scientific community is now mooting another interesting idea: the odd orbital behavior of things in the outer solar system may not be caused by an as-yet-un...

Re: My Opinion

I have an idiot for a coworker. That said, he's useful for this example. My coworker claims as far as he knows from people he's talked to, "Linux is strictly this command line system". Another example is the recent thread here on LMF which talks about an incident where someone went to buy a laptop w...

Re: My Opinion

Personally, I think Cinnamon occupies a certain sort of "sweet spot" if you will between Classic Mac OS and Mac OS X, and (in the general sense because naturally specific details have changed over the years) Windows where user interface paradigms are concerned. I can't see how anyone with at least h...

Re: 19.2 "Tina" Cinnamon MacBook Pro Overheating Locking Up Freezing

I run LM 19.2 on a 2.7GHz i7-based 2011 13" MBP. I also have 10 GB of RAM in it. I've had no issues like what you're describing. Honestly, I'd replace the RAM (bad RAM can and does masquerade as a host of other problems) and probably max it out while you're at it. I love my Samsung SSD. The performa...

Re: Gamma Ray Bursts From Black Holes *May* Exceed Speed Of Light

You may be able to change the position of where the laser spot will appear faster than light, but the spot won't appear until the photons reach the moon and are reflected back to you. Even if the photons are emitted from the source at a rate that exceeds light speed, those photons have to get there...

Re: Gamma Ray Bursts From Black Holes *May* Exceed Speed Of Light

So, basically, the math level you guys are operating at is well beyond my capabilities. It's interesting to look at, and even have someone explain what they are trying to do (I always love behind-the-scenes type stuff) but that's all the meaning I will ever get out of it. Fortunately for me, my area...

Yes. OK, settled. And to Portreve: as you see, this is in fact and at least once you got the right "picture" just high-school trigonometry; no advanced mathematics in sight yet (the Lorentz transformation of special relativity that was mentioned a bit before is...) Lol! Oh, if you only knew... heh ...

Re: Gamma Ray Bursts From Black Holes *May* Exceed Speed Of Light

I am afraid it really is tan(). It of course depends a bit on which angle we take as "the angle" as to how things work out exactly, but it'll never be sin(). Specifically for 45deg, V'=V is precisely right. Mind you, not meant as an argument-from-authority but only in hopes of communicating that I'...

Re: Gamma Ray Bursts From Black Holes *May* Exceed Speed Of Light

This video by vsauce seems oddly appropriate for this thread; its discussion most of the way through the video about the Dunning-Kruger effect seems extremely appropriate right this second. Personally, I think there is a correlation (if not an actual connection) between believing something someone ...

Re: FYI: New Cloudflare VPN "Warp" for Android and Apple iOS smartphones and tablets

Does anyone here know anything about Cloudflare? Are they self-owned or owned by someone else? Where are they based? Have they established a reputation, and if so, what sort of reputation? Have multiple authoritative, trusted sources vouched for them? Is any of what they say on their website correct...

Re: Gamma Ray Bursts From Black Holes *May* Exceed Speed Of Light

I don't remember if it was PBS Space Time or Fermilab, but they talked about the Moon laser light paradox thing in one of their videos, too. To be honest, I thought it was pretty stupid, and I never really got why anyone would have considered it a legit thing to begin with. Oh well...
