Re: Gaming in Linux Mint!

my steam immediately closes when trying to browse the store. but the game browser is ok? i seem to have had most of the bug / issues :( i guess thats what you get by running an amd card and xfce rather than ubuntu and an nvidia or intel gpu though. Most of the desura games advertised for linux dont...

Re: linuxmint.com web site should recommend MATE

currently mint 15 should only come with MATE and XFCE. Cinnamon is royally fudged, the coding is sloppy.

crashes left, right and center on multiple hardware types using oem driver or open source. Its a complete balls up

Re: Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

ok installed desura and some games wont launch? again probably the video driver. Desura will turn itself off completley as will steam from time to time. I have to say with some of these themes cinnamon looks so elegant and the applets are really nice, but it just should feel so chunky? Im using 1.1G...

Re: Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

i havent given up on it yet. i have reinstalled 3 times now. 1 each day, and upto date with the latest and greatest. my expo background is black and the bin icon is massive. this has been reported elsewhere too. I think a lot of the issues are related to the video driver fglrx ? composistion can sto...

Re: Cinnamon's memory usage

right now it would seem cinnamon is going through a bad patch! i cant get it stable on my system at all. kde is an ok alternative until you start messing with it and quite quickly you can get some screw ups (not the end of the world, but steam big picture doesnt work on kde for me but does on cinnam...

Re: Linux Mint 15 KDE Plasma 64 bit

I wouldnt say cinnamon is crappy, its almost there and definatley crossed a line where it can be made to look and feel how you want it much easier, it feels professional. But its definatley buggy as hell if your up for some learning try xcfe, you can get the desktop looking very smart and for the fl...

Re: Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

ok , tried to like this build. Its just not good at all. I cant change fonts without the menu crashing. I cant change GTK themes frequently without a crash (We are talking full reset types) All i have is a vanilla install with the official 13.4 amd drivers. opening the file manager the animation is ...

Re: Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

right had enough of this  its crashed about 15 times now. the desklet menus crashes, changing anything usually results in instability. It may come as no suprise i have an AMD CPU and AMD GPU but then again it was doing it before the official drivers. I do expect its a video driver issue but im ...

Re: Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

I managed to easily break expo. All you do it run fire fox, and have two tabs open. lets say google & linuxmint .. drag a tab upto the top corner expo icon. This gives you two firefox instances side by side on 1 workspace *this is not the best, it would be better if using expo you could move this ne...

Lots of niggles and full DE crashes LM15 ..

Love the contined updates to the fluid look and feel. Lots of great consolidatory work and generally an exellent release. It feels like LM cinnamon is at windows 7 level (*and i mean that as a compliment for its ease of use, and consistent look ) :) it can be now used almost 100% instead of windows ...

Re: Cinnamon Themes

Hi samriggs, i have created that Western wooden Theme. I did it man :D :D :D :D :D !!check this bro http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=157708 I was wondering if you can make a GTK theme for it. Actually that Wood 'n Tux had a GTK 2 theme included in the zip file but I can't change it into...

Re: Xfce looking like Gnome 2 ?

like it :D I also have tried MATE (too limited on the customization menus and options) feels, i dunno a tiny bit clunky and square but its good no doubt, i may try it again in a few months time. Cinnamon I have found to be a bit picky about how it chooses to perform on a set day with different hardw...

Re: Cinnamon Menu SLOW. Its always been slow since its Incep

I was testing it on mint 13 yes. I don't know what it is, it just seems like the menu isnt quite sharp enough. Obviously a light weight DE will feel snappy compared and the rest of cinnamon feels really fast?

well i might just try gloria then and see if my experience is still the same :)

Cinnamon Menu SLOW. Its always been slow since its Inception

firstly i cant code, i appreciate the enormous amount of work that goes into every aspect of a distro / DE Cinnamon menu is slow to open? I have tried cinnamon from its first inception to the latest. I have tried it on intel cpu / igpu & amd gpu + cpu & amd APU. Always the same. I press the menu but...

Re: Thank you for Mint XFCE!

agree with OP its the perfect WM initially it puts your typical user off with its bare interface but after a few simple tweaks and learning you can get something that looks just as good as anything else imo. and its light weight and rock solid. on my laptop the 32bit edition runs at 137mb ram usage ...

Re: ONCE AGAIN... FF!! Stop breaking linux with updates

In the past mesa, GRUB, the kernel, and other critical stuff was all level 4-5. I haven't used the mint updater for a while, so I don't know anymore. And I know this will probably go over like a lead balloon, but nobody is forcing you to update your system. If everything is working, there's not muc...
