xcfe should come with hardinfo

there is no full system information utility in mint 15 xcfe?

so you cant look at a full hardware roster and what drivers are running.

hardinfo is an exellent utility for this. it should be included :)

Something I noticed about Mint which isnt great

Hi, love mint :D however i noticed something across released KDE,XFCE etc.. :?: If you load your HDD up with activity (for example download a Steam game or move a large file from one disc to another) The audio pauses and the system freezes for a second ? Why is this? windows doesnt do this? I have a...

Re: Linux Mint 15 KDE and time synchronization

does opensuse use KDE? because i have opensuse on gnome 3 on a partition and gnome 3 isnt very nice at all, hate the lack of minimize buttons for a start. i also had a UTC issue and tempromental network issue in KDE 15. I would log it as a bug if i were you, i wont as ive logged too many recently an...

Re: My issues with Mint KDE

I'm beginning to believe KDE sucks as well. First off the sound simply refuses to work. I have my logitech headset plugged in and sound does not come out. Another example is when I finished my fresh install of mint KDE and it crashed right after I attempted to open the dolphin browser. after trying...

Re: LVM + Full Disk Encryption - Priority ONE

I can also add that this is an important feature. :D :D :D Why? well I would ask the question: Why not ? I cant see any reason other than the user error of forgetting the password after an initial install, but after typing it many times on boot im sure thats a very small issue. I have some points: ....

Re: KDE 4.11 Beta 1 Released

Im interested in to where the graphics sub systems are going with mint / kde. I belive Ubuntu is going Mir. Therefore although extremley simular (if not the same) Weyland will break from ubuntu. But then again, mint is ubuntu based.. so with KDE going weyland how will the mint team react? Also Nvidi...

Re: Mint Snapshot feature & accesable in recovery mode !!

So my suggestion stands: Option in update manager to snapshot driver position (as in a text document for the system to read when you command line restore) Summarized like that, it is an excellent suggestion and you have my vote on this. You may want to edit your first post here, and strip away a bi...

Re: Mint Snapshot feature & accesable in recovery mode !!

Thanks for the replies :) Well im calming down now Ive installed ubuntu, i don't wish to exaggerate but its awful ! I take the point that the MESA update can be 'de-selected' and also the point made that one update can be tried at a time, but if that update fails my desktop then even as a moderately...

Re: Mint Snapshot feature & accesable in recovery mode !!

No-one can be 100% sure that some random update to some application from some third party developer (open source or not) will not impact a user's customized system --if we could guarantee that every user ran exactly the same desktop and the same applications and the same appeartance items and the s...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

I also notice a delay when opening the menu and also a delay in selection when hovering over items in menu. Cinnamon is very nice looking, but I've found i've been logging in under MATE for the sole reason there is no delay : ( running on lm 15 x64. There was also a delay in 14. core 2 duo 1.8GHz (...

Re: Gaming in Linux Mint!

just to say my gaming days with mint have come to an end. I cannot fathom how easy it is for a minor update to trash a desktop entirely in Linux for anyone who used to getting problems with mesa updates. Avoid the latest one, it blows everything away. I recommend sticking with Ubuntu (as much as ove...

Mint Snapshot feature & accesable in recovery mode !!

Dear mint team, At the moment I am trying REALLY  hard not to walk away from Linux Mint forever and tell others i know to stick to windows or try ubuntu. 2 Years. 4 incidents 4 updates that created the incidents 4 times = MESA UPDATES BROKE THE ENTIRE DESKTOP !! IF ITS SUCH A BIG GAME CHANG...

Re: Cinnamon and the slow menu from the stoneage

Linux mint 15 64bit / AMD card & The menu felt initially a bit snappier on a fresh install but that could be a placebo of a few 1000th of a millisecond. 26 people who may or may not require a snappy opening menu? noticed little or no lag but a whopping 52 people said it was laggy ! cinnamon's menu ...

Re: Gaming on Linux Mint 15 through Steam, your experiences

experience = poor AMD drivers in opensource are poor at 3D , AMD drivers in official are poor at 2D no win. Also using xfce i seem to get windows silently closing from time to time. Cinnamon isn't actually that friendly with AMD either. no win The games list is still poor. The games aren't optimized...

well there is a technicality that should be not too hard to sort but Canoical and therefore Ubuntu -- by association Linux Mint have decreed Wayland progress to be too slow and so took their code and moved onto Mir http://www.datamation.com/open-source/ubuntu-display-server-fallout-1.html So anythin...

Re: Gaming in Linux Mint!

I run Maya XFCE and steam works fine. Although the "Connecting to steam" takes a lot longer now. I'm also using 6770HD and 13.6 beta catalyst. Steam connects fast. It closes fast for me (perhaps dependant on speed i have a good connection) it will play games but closes when i click on an item in th...
