LMDE Battery Life

I just updated to a new laptop and I just noticed that my battery life is MUCH worse in LMDE than in Windows. My old laptop an HP 8440p had basically the same battery usage between the two OS's, but my new laptop an HP 8460p isn't. I have dual batteries and in Windows I noticed that the batteries la...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Narendra.d, I've actually noticed the same issue. I boot into Windows 7 and the time is correct, I boot back into LMDE and the time is off (by 4 hours for me, every time - my TZ is EST). Luckily, I don't boot into Windows very often, so I don't really think about it but your post reminded me. ;-) I'...

I've tested it out (it's actually what I'm using at the moment). I've had no issues with it; has worked fine thus far.

That's a lot of packages. Only 703 here.
I'm running with 2988 packages. :-) Of course, I have not only full gnome-shell installed, but also kde, fluxbox and xfce as backups. Sometimes I like to switch out desktops I'm using to keep things fresh. LOL

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Question for all the long time Debian users (I've been on other 'flavors' since the mid-nineties but decided to give debian a shot about a year and a half ago): When Testing is frozen, what do most of you do in reference to your repo's? Move to SID or stick with testing? I've tested SID in the past ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Farsight was renamed to farstream . A new empathy with the correct dependency should arrive from sid in a few days. I've actually been thinking about moving to SID from testing for a while now. With the upcoming freeze, etc... Maybe I'll do it on one of my systems as a test again to see how it goes.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Thanks zerozero.... Much appreciated.

I didn't realize I still had pidgin installed, so I removed it (I actually don't use it anymore, nor empathy actually). After that, I went ahead with my apt-get dist-upgrade, so I'll see how it goes. :-)

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Wow.... I attempted my typical "sudo aptitude update;sudo aptitude upgrade;sudo aptitude dist-upgrade" and it's wanting to remove a lot. :-) Any ideas? I'm definitely holding off on dist-upgrade for now. No pinning, preferences as follows: Package: * Pin: release o=linuxmint Pin-Priority: 500 Packag...

Re: KDE question on usability like in Gnome

Thanks for the link. I may give KDE another try soon. I had used the "fish:" option previously but it didn't work as well as the Gnome option in Nautilus, but maybe the "remote:" option will work more like what I'm used to (being able to play a remote video via streaming and not downloading the enti...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Let's say you configure Gnome3 for a friend you are converting to Linux. What if he creates a new user? What if he recommends it to his friends? Do they need to have you to reconfigure it to make it usable? When Mint attempted to include Gnome3 in Lisa, they had to create their own extensions. Zori...

KDE question on usability like in Gnome

Would some of the KDE guru's be kind enough to enlighten me on a topic I've been thinking about: Is there similar functionality in KDE as the "Connect to Server" integration within Nautilus in Gnome? It gives a very easy and convenient connection (I use it via ssh) to directories on another server a...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Now, After using it, configuring and adding 15-20 extensions, I find myself in the opposite camp. Interesting that you needed to add 15-20 extensions to bring Gnome Shell to a state that you can love. LOL - I knew something like that would be coming from the other camp. :-) Is that not what the ext...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2000 It is also interesting that Gnome Shell is left out, having virtually the same popularity than KDE. But I understand that Clem just wanted to probe the air and never committed to follow strictly the results. Anyways, I am glad that Gnome Shell is out :D . (In my ow...

I don't share the view of keeping things as before. Time goes on, life goes on, things are changing... Hold on to the past is a waste of time in my opinion. Well, I usually check here before I update but I didn't today and got bit, but Gnome Classic works, so I'm good until it's fixed. :-) Does anyone happen to know if there is a regular Debian Forum that lists breakages in SID like ours for Linux Mint? Best Video Card supporting HDMI 1.4 and 3D?

I've finally gotten around to buying a new 3D Projector to replace my 1080p 2D one and have a question for the hardware guru's. What is a good Video Card that I can get to support this? I'm guessing my current card (NVidia GeForce 8600 GT) probably doesn't support HDMI 1.4 so I thought I better find...

Another cool thing you can do with it is use "motion". That's a video surveillance application that will detect motion and take snapshots and/or video. :-)
