Re: desktop shortcuts

:| but right-clicking on the desktop in Lisa doesn't give the option of creating a launcher or maybe I need to change some setting or other so that it does? Doh! Good point, you're correct. You would need to enable "Have File Manager Handle Desktop" in the "gnome-tweak-tool". That will allow you to...

Re: desktop shortcuts

Yes, I typically just right-click on the desktop (or in the folder you want it) and select "Create Launcher" to do it.

-----edit----- Well, I just noticed that @oobetimer already responded to you and did an excellent job with a video. :-)

Re: Do I really Need a /boot partition

If you're not using LVM or software RAID, etc...then a separate boot is not needed or required. I always have a separate /boot partition, but then again, it's needed because I prefer to use LVM for my storage management. :-) I typically have a 200MB /boot and use LVM to handle all the rest (/, swap,...

Re: Reload Win7 with Ubuntu 11.10 and LinuxMint 11 installed

@calpe - sorry, I didn't see your question until now. Glad to have helped and that you've got it working. As to auto mount/umount, I never really looked into that since I started using "WiFi File Explorer Pro" on the tablet not long after I figured out how to attach it to linux. With that running, I...

Re: No updates?

I've been running LMDE since it first came out (and I'm still pointing directly to debian testing on a number of my machines, both desktop and laptop, with NO issues at all - even during the Gnome 2 to Gnome 3 switch, no issues). I have 2 systems currently using the update packs, but I think I'll pr...

Re: Google Desktop Search - Replacement Application Advise?

OK, just thought I'd update the thread in case anyone else is looking for a good Desktop Search replacement for Google Desktop. I finally located the last version of Google Desktop and got that installed again also. :-) But..... After much testing of numerous apps, I've settled on Recoll - http://ww...

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

LMDE since it first came out. Now it's Gnome 3, which freaked me out when it first happend but has grown on me. Been on many distros over the years, then moved to Ubuntu sometime around 7.04 or 7.10, left ubuntu not long after 10.10 and moved completely to LMDE. Been on it ever since and have had no...

Google Desktop Search - Replacement Application Advise?

What are the desktop search applications that some of you are using successfully? I've tried a lot of them in the past but I had standardized on Google Desktop a few years ago, but just as I was getting ready to re-organize all of my manuals and documents and setup desktop search, I found out that G...

Re: Linux Mint Debian 201109 (Gnome & Xfce) released!

Thanks for the LMDE..... I definitely love it. MUCH better than Ubuntu was. Even my wife is loving it compared to Ubuntu on her laptop. :-) I've been running since it was first released on one of my laptops and now have it on a number of my media servers and other systems, and I've even replaced one...

Re: Update pack 4?

I was kind'of wondering the same thing. In the meantime, I'm just using the debian backports repository for iceweasel (Mozilla Firefox 7.x Unbranded).
