Re: Microsoft Small Business accounting

I appoligise I just got off work on a midnight shift and really didn't notice the full title of this post, "business accounting" part, so libre office would really make no sense unless you use the spreadsheet So to make amends for my tired eyeballs here is some linux friendly software for accounting...

Re: Opinion: What is the biggest single hurdle keeping Linux becoming more "mainstream"?

So, in reference to the above, how DOES a newbie decide which variant to use? I found that very easy: I Startpaged 'linux beginners' and found a bunch of articles, most of them stated that Mint was the way to go, and so that's what I went with. And I liked it, so I stuck with it. Easy-peasy. :mrgre...

Re: kernel issue

wouldn't it just be easier to start over and stay away from the ppa's altogeather? OP is new to this obviously so it is probably just easier to start all over again from scratch. kernel 4.11 is new and just came out not so long ago, I won't even use it right now because it's so new. stick with the k...

Re: Good article re Ubuntu's future

I'm very new to all of this and have to ask, after reading this article, will the KDE option for Mint disappear? I honestly don't have enough experience with other DEs, but years ago, way back when I made my first attempt to use gnulinux, I did try gnome and liked it less than KDE, I know it has ch...

Re: Distro hopping

LMDE is mints rolling release... LMDE 2 is based on Jessie stable, which is hardly a rolling release. Debian doesn't do rolling releases really anyway. The reason that it doesn't get periodic point upgrades is that isn't how Debian does their stable release. They don't put out a new one until it's ...

Re: Xiphos does not appear in menu

As Shultz says it will be under Education in the menu, when it first boots you have to add the bible version , books etc you want in it also. If after rebooting it doesn't show up there try typing xiphos in the terminal (lower case x), that will open it if it is installed, if it doesn't open up then...

Re: Distro hopping

LMDE is mints rolling release smaller community but a good release if you like rolling releases, I used to use it for quite awhile but I need the fresh shiny stuff, hence manjaro, plus I love arch based and debian so I use both. I love rolling releases and try to use them more then the other, mainly...

Re: Distro hopping

sorry about that Portreve forgot to get rid of all the quote marks I fixed it. I have a Manjaro install to play with. The only problem I have is I'm not a programmer, and installing from YAOURT can be perplexing. PacmanXG used to have a nifty feature: when installing from the AUR it would bring up i...

Re: Distro hopping

The rpm package manager was broken. The people at their support forum thought it was my fault for not reading all the bugzillas. I am NOT kidding. My reply went something like: "do you really think I'd be stupid enough to install a Linux distro knowing the package manager was frakking broken? So lo...

Re: Distro hopping

I love hopping around and have done so for years but finally settled down on two. Mint cinnamon for stability and manjaro xfce for latest and greatest. I hate doing reinstalls so I prefer rolling releases, which is why I went with manjaro for that, plus besides debian based, arch is tied with my fav...

Re: Making Themes

What most, if not all (except the folks that wrote it in the first place) do is just take the main theme or any other one, (make sure it's up to date), fork it for your own use. as far as how to's go, I don't know of any but when I make themes I just grab the latest one and fork it for my own theme,...

It was caused by a leak from a factory that has since closed down a long time ago but the mercury is still there. you can read about the cleanup and what happen here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_Hope,_Ontario Everyone is leary about eating the fish they catch there, I won't but some still do. ...

Re: Why do we need so much help...

I'm in Trenton, the No Swimming signs are not always up, just when it gets really bad and most times you can smell the river (bad smell), which I never smelled before I moved down here, in port hope the fish have quite a bit of mercury in them so you have to be careful there also. Hopefully it'll cl...

PS: The Religious side had us all dead about 200 years ago...:D Not to harp or go into depth on this point mainly because of forum rules but just one comment. Re: Why do we need so much help...

reminds me when I lived in british columbia for over 3 years (clean air, no polution) came back to toronto for a visit, flying into the city, it looked much like the photo of LA there, when I got off the plane and went out side I started coughing like crazy, my lungs weren't used to smog anymore. I ...
