HOW TO: Install Zukitwo (Unified GTK2/3 Theme)

I installed LMDE on my laptop the other day, after my brief foray with arch. I noticed the GTK3 apps looked terrible to say the least, so I tried to install my favorite gtk theme, zukitwo, which has the best matching GTK2/3 theme I've seen. I found that neither of the theme engines I needed were in ...

Firefox Ugly fonts

I've noticed the firefox package in LMDE doesn't seem to be compiled to use system cairo... This isn't a great choice. Font rendering looks extremely inconsistent compared to the rest of the system and generally pretty terrible. I had to switch to chrome just so I could stand browsing the internet. ...

Automount ext4 partition

I have an ext4 data partition I use for my music. Every time I boot I have to mount it and enter my password. I'd like to just have it silently automount at boot. What's the easiest way to accomplish this?

Re: Sound not working on asus u52f bbg6 [SOLVED]

Thanks so much! I just bought a similar model (u52f-bbl9) and this fix worked perfectly! I also did not have to boot into windows, I put the line at the end, saved, rebooted and it worked.

Re: Linux Mint 11 Destkop Environment?

Gnome 3 isn't as bad as I thought it would be when I gave it a brief run in fedora 15., My biggest criticism was the ABSURD amount of padding in the default theme, but thats finally being fixed. Unfortunately I really can't test it properly as its still broken with fglrx, and using the oss drivers o...

When I run apt-get update I get all those ignored translation indexes as well, but I get no errors when updating.

Totem Xvid broken

Is totem totally borken when it comes to playing xvids for anything else? I get sound when I open an xvid in totem but the video is just colored lines. VLC and Mplayer work fine. http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/862/screenshotre.png h.264 files have a similar issue but not as bad: http://img862.im...

Re: Firefox 4 in LMDE How To

Yeah I decided to switch over to using the debian mozilla repo and installing iceweasel. Font smoothing looks much better with the debian packages compared to the mozilla binary.

Re: HOWTO: Improve Font Rendering in LMDE

After using this I can't seem to change my font sizes anymore. i.e. changing font size from 10 to 11 in appearence or in gconf does nothing at all. changing hinting settings and such does though. anyway to fix this?

Re: Weather/Clock Issue

What country are you located in? Is the clock wrong everytime? Do you dual-boot with Windows? I do dual boot, and am in the US. I did have an issue with utc time being enabled by default, but disabled that in a config file (UTC=no in /etc/default/rcS), and since then times in mint and windows are b...

Re: 2.6.38.2 kernel

I now have two kernels in my bootup menu and the old kernel won't load. I'm ok with that but I'm concerned about the info on the new kernel saying computers are running hot. Talk to me. I haven't noticed any heat increases on my laptop. I don't think it happens to everyone like phoronix would have ...

Re: Gnome 3 experimentation

Gnome 3 is alright, but I haven't been able to give it a proper test as its STILL broken with fglrx :/.

I still prefer Mint's gnome 2 implementation, can't wait to see what they do with gnome 3 (without the shell)

Re: Theming brainstorm for LMDE

I personally think droid sans is quite a nice font. There's a few distro's using it as default now. The ubuntu font is really sexy but only on ubuntu and with certain font rendering settings (for example if you set hinting to anything but slight it looks terrible). And for some reason in LMDE it doe...

Re: Should Linux Mint end it's reliance on Ubuntu?

Ubuntu is constantly changing and with unity they are really doing their own thing. I think ubuntu isn't a very stable base, and it would benefit mint in the long run to differentiate themselves more and use the more stable debian base. Also rolling releases are awesome.
