Installation of LM 20, 19.3, ...
I have been unable to install LM 20 on an EightVirtues laptop and the company has not responded to email contact (even though I am only 1.5 years in a 4-year warranty). The problems are multiple and unfortunately very diffuse: - sometimes the system boots up (but only after a long time and then some...

Re: Time in calendar applet in panel loops
Update: I haven't done anything to the laptop but now the date/time applet is looping through 10:04 although hwclock is still showing the correct time. It seems as if the hour is always that of the correct time, but the minute is 'frozen' ...

Time in calendar applet in panel loops
Hi all I am running Mint 19.3 (fresh install) and yesterday the time in the calendar applet in panel stopped working. I set it to network time (Pacific Standard Daylight Time) and sudo hwclock shows that the hardware clock is working fine, but the time now loops through 08:04 all the time: the secon...

Re: SD card doesn't mount on one computer anymore
And I forgot to mention, the laptop1 also doesn't recognize other SD cards anymore so it COULD be a hardware problem, but since this all only started after the disk process wasn't concluded, I doubt that and bet it's a software thing.

SD card doesn't mount on one computer anymore
Hi all I have two laptops with Mint 19.1 Cinnamon. I use a 128GB SD card for backups. Last time I shut down laptop1 that had the card in it, it turned off before a a disk process apparently involving the card was completed and now laptop1 on which that happened doesn't mount that SD card anymore. Th...

Re: Sound in Mint 19 Cinnamon
I tried the three terminal lines but it didn't work and no, there's no parallel boot possibility with Windows (I only trust Win enough for a virtual box) ;-) The system in question is a Dell XPS 8300 desktop. For now I'll try to reinstall the OS again, maybe that'll help, but I appreciate all your e...

Re: Sound in Mint 19 Cinnamon
I've tried that now as well as some other combinations of settings, but to no avail - in fact, now I don't even get the startup sound anymore when I reboot

Those are listed, yes, but they are listed as both "(unplugged) (unavailable)".

Sound in Mint 19 Cinnamon
Hi all I just installed Mint 19 Cinnamon on my laptop and my desktop. On the desktop, I have a sound problem: when I boot, I get the Cinnamon startup sound, but then no other sound works: no test sounds, nothing from the browser, etc. In the sound settings app on the Output tab, it recognizes a devi...

For me, this posted solution worked (after a reboot and one initial resorting of things on the desktop).

Icons on Cinnamon Desktop (Mint 18.3)
Hi all Any idea on how I can avoid having Mint put icons on top of other icons on the desktop? For instance, my browser download folder ins the desktop and whenever I download a file, the icon for it is put on top of another icon on the very left of my desktop - why? My desktop settings are "al...

<SOLVED> Read-only USB
I was able to apply this
cd /to/the/stick
ls -al
# ^^^ post back what you get from that 'ls'
sudo chown username:username .
sudo chmod +w .
touch aa
to the stick when formatted as ext4 and then refomat it into ntfs with gparted - that did the trick, thanks so much!

Read-only USB
Hi all On Mint 18.2 64bit, I am running into a problem again that apparently has been discussed for a long time but nothing I find only works for me: formatting a USB-stick with FAT 32 and then not being able to write onto it because "the destination is read-only" - is there a real fix for...
