Open with wine program loader

I am using Mint 15 Cinnamon 64bit and have the current version of wine installed. My problem is with a .exe file: If I click on it, it wants to open it with the Archive Manager. It's ok when I right-click on it and choose Open With > Wine Program Loader. HOWEVER, I would like to make that the defaul...

Re: Fonts in Mint 15

The font viewer showed all fonts correctly so I am not sure what was going on there. Since this was a fresh install and I hadn't yet done a lot of customizing etc., I re-installed it all and now it works fine. Weird ... Anyway, thanks for taking the time!

Re: Fonts in Mint 15

Here is another way the problem manifests itself: look at the font sizes in the Resolution section ... Any ideas?

Fonts in Mint 15

I just installed Mint 15 Cinnamon and have problems with the fonts. Firefox, LibreOffice, those are ok, but in gedit, Geany, and the terminal, the font displayed in the dropdown list of fonts (Monospace) is not the one displayed (which is some proportional font), and even if I change it to another f...

Re: Time and date (possibly daylight savings time)

Well yea, I ended up setting it manually to have a meaningful clock on my screen, but I was hoping that there was a 21st century Linux 3.5 solution to the problem, not a 16th century set-your-clock-manually solution ;-) Oh well, maybe in Mint 18 ... Thx anyway!

Time and date (possibly daylight savings time)

I live in the area of Pacific Standard Time (which is GMT-8) and I use Mint 14 KDE. There, Daylight savings time was set last Sunday. Right now, two days after that, I am in Central Europe (GMT+1) where they do not have DST yet so we're only 8 hours ahead. The problem is this: I set the Date and Tim...

Re: SD card not recognized (in 95% of all cases)

I just had to reinstall the system (because the NVidia driver shot it) and now two SD cards are never recognized. No entry in this sys log thing, no entry in System Settings > Removable Devices, nothing. Any tips, *plz*?

Ok, will try that. 4.7.4 is definitely stable, but some applications have been much improved in 4.9.2 so I was wondering whether it's possible to get there. Oh well ...

Yes, I put them all into sources.list so I can back this up more easily. Makes no difference for updating in general

Re: (How) Can I install KDE 4.9.2 on Mint 12 KDE?

I did try the precise backports but that was risky: half of the stuff would be updated, rest would be kept back etc. so I didn't dare go through with it. But ye, they probably stopped after 12.04. Shame: since Mint doesn't bother doesn't with alternate installers, I am stuck ... Thx anyway, guys.

Re: (How) Can I install KDE 4.9.2 on Mint 12 KDE?

Hm, I do have this deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu oneiric main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu oneiric main in my sources.list bercause I thought that would do it, but even after sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade I still only have ...

(How) Can I install KDE 4.9.2 on Mint 12 KDE?

I am running Mint 12 KDE (on a Dell XPS 8300), which still uses KDE 4.7.4. Is there a simple way to upgrade to KDE 4.9.2? I can NOT install Mint 13 KDE because MINT 13's installer can't handle my RAID setup (which really stinks, because Mint 12 can do it fine. but that's beside the point now ;-))

Re: SD card not recognized (in 95% of all cases)

UPDATE: It works without problems when an SD card is in the slot while booting. Then the one in there is recognized, switching to another is no problem either. But if it's not in there while booting, the problem persists.

SD card not recognized (in 95% of all cases)

I just got a new motherboard on my Dell Latitude E6500. I had Mint KDE 13 on it before. When the technician put in the new motherboard, we tested the motherboard with a live CD and everything worked; in particular, the OS recognized it when I put an SD card in the slot. Then I installed Mint 13 KDE ...

I thought I had done that but upon revisiting this, it turned out the link to the jar was broken, duh ... Now it's fine, thanks!

File association, problem 2: overriding Mint's ... [SOLVED]

I have some text files that contain code in a programming language R. I also have GNU Octave (a MatLab clone) and RStudio (an IDE for R). Now what happens is that - one file with R code in it is (correctly) recognized as an "R Source File", a file type that results from the installation of...

Re: Creating a new file association

Hm, no, because I have a command:

java -jar /home/NAME/PATH/VUE/VUE_3-1-2.jar

The problem is that the File Associations tool doesn't let me override Mint's 'guess' that 'obviously' I want to open an XML/HTML with Firefox by creating a new file association.

Creating a new file association [SOLVED]

I am using Mint 12 KDE. I often use a mindmapping software called VUE, which allows one to generate a mind map in a GUI and then saves the file as an XML file. In my start menu, I have created a shortcut and icon for it (in the Office section of the start menu, which launches VUE by executing a .jar...
