Olivia's new boot splash, modified and repackaged for LMDE

Since Linux Mint 15 has a very nice new boot splash, I decided to modify it and repackage it so it will also run on LMDE. Other than a small issue where the boot splash does not reach the fully loaded state before Plymouth is exited (something that happens to all of the themes that use a progress in...

Re: How to make Cinnamon panel look like Zorin's ??

You probably need to specify the size of the background image using the background-size property, since it appears your background is not the full width of your monitor. the line would probably need to look something like this: background-size: [height of panel]px [width of panel]px; Substitute the ...

Re: How to make Cinnamon panel look like Zorin's ??

Ah, yeah, I kinda realized that after the fact... *shrug* The only way to do that would be with an image used as the panel background, as already mentioned earlier in the thread. There's no way to handle the curvy features of the panel as in Zorin's panel with the CSS supported by the Cinnamon panel...

Re: How to make Cinnamon panel look like Zorin's ??

Unless I'm mistaken, Zorin OS appears to be using Avant Window Navigator (AWN) as its panel, likely with dockbarx handling the application launchers/task manager through the dockbarx applet for AWN. I'm not certain about this, but it appears they might have a custom clock applet installed as well, t...

Re: Help! Where are the "floating feets" in Cinnamon?

The gnome-screensaver package doesn't actually run screensavers anymore, it's just the lock screen. You may want to look into installing the xscreensaver package, it should still work like you're expecting (though, I don't know if it would contain the floating feet screensaver, since that's a GNOME ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

I tried systemd for a while and it worked, but then an update broke it so I went back to sysv. I tried it again somewhat recently after the update to GNOME 3.6, because Plymouth and GDM 3.6 weren't getting along with sysv as the system manager, but for some reason I failed to get a proper 3D-accelet...

Except the i386 arch doesn't seem to have been updated to match yet... Though, I did already manage to get dfsg-7 installed without much of a hitch anyway, so...

I wonder why i386 QT library package updates seem to always lag behind the amd64 updates...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jan 2, 2013

I noticed issues with that package too but it fixed itself after re-applying the updates in Synaptic a couple more times (once for the amd64 package and once for the i386 package, no doubt). It looks like there's a file in libqtdbus4 that was previously packaged in libqt4-dbus, and when the package ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

Ah, maybe that was my problem too then, I'll check the list of updates on my LMDE install and avoid that package if it shows up. Wish me luck, I'd hate to have to revert to my two-week-old backup once again if something breaks, it's not very fun trying to update it when a more recent update's the ca...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

Thanks, but none of those packages look like they'd block GDM and GNOME Shell from starting properly. I'm just gonna revert to m backup and do all of the updates again without installing Steam, then see if things break or not. If not, then it's related to my installing the Steam client that's ultima...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

@GeneC: Wow, that's... shorter than I expected. The only thing on that list that apparently caused problems for one person here so far is libfreetype6, but downgrading that didn't fix the issue I'm having (which seems similar, but apparently must be caused by something else...) I guess I'm going to ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

Anyone able to give me a list of just the updates from the 29th? Unfortunately my list is full of updates since a couple weeks ago (had to revert to an old backup), and it was working fine until yesterday's updates, so it would be nice to narrow the list down to only those packages from yesterday (t...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jul 19th

I noticed last night when I got home and booted my computer after yesterday's update that GDM wouldn't start, nor could I manually start X... I wonder if that was the package responsible then... I'll get back to you in a moment and let you know what I find out... EDIT: Apparently that's not the righ...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

That seems rather odd, I would expect notifications from the same application should stack or something. Deluge seems to stack notifications in one icon if more than one pops up without being dismissed... I don't run very many applications that put up notifications regularly that persist until I pur...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I have to say, GNOME 3.6 is proving to be very frustrating to me. GDM 3.6 seems to have trouble taking the hand-off from Plymouth w/ sysvinit, so I don't get a graphical login after the system finishes booting, and more often than not I can't drop to a console either to log in that way (or restart G...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

You may want to take a look at the default theme's code to see what other changes you'll need to make to the theme aside from increasing the message tray and summary mode heights. If I recall, all of the #notification sections were replaced with .notification instead, as well as most of the #summary...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Unico from Ubuntu Quantal does allow me to use my themes again, however they appear to be a bit buggy, and Nautilus in particular appears to have changed so much the old styling no longer works, making the application look terrible. It looks like I'm going to have some updating to do to make everyth...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I see your point... The lock screen must be similar to GDM in that it uses the default theme for its styling, and the only way to style it any differently would be to replace the default theme. Anyone else wishing the GNOME developers would bake user theme support into GNOME Shell proper (and any ot...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I shrank the message tray itself to 60px to match the (seemingly) minimum height necessary for the Summary Mode (which is what actually holds the tray icons), and it works nicely like that. Some of the lock screen stuff can be changed, so I wouldn't remove it out-right. I tweaked the notifications i...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

A few more things to note about my experience so far with GNOME Shell 3.6, after updating my Shiki-Nouveau themes to work more nicely with it: - The lock screen's appearance can only be minimally customized with user themes. A lot of it seems to be hard-coded to match the default GNOME Shell theme, ...
