Re: LM 11 RC - enabling desktop cube -> window borders vanis

I don't think it has anything to do with Unity (though I could be wrong), unless I'm mistaken Unity is built as a plugin on Compiz, so without it installed it shouldn't be disabling the title bar when maximizing windows... *shrug* I know I typically run a number of applications maximized and they st...

Re: LM 11 RC - enabling desktop cube -> window borders vanis

It sounds like Compiz may be completely disabling its plugins on you when you try to change something in the configuration. It does that occasionally on me, and it's really a pain since it actually saves them in the disabled state so a logout-login doesn't fix it. I end up copying the configuration ...

Re: Should Linux Mint end it's reliance on Ubuntu?

I do have to admit that keeping an Ubuntu-derived version of Mint would be a good idea. I've run both Ubuntu-based and Debian-based Mint on here, and while both work reasonably well, the Ubuntu base performs somewhat better overall for me. Sound works better in the Ubuntu base for me than in the Deb...

Re: Mint Menu not loading correctly

You're right, I did misunderstand a bit. Have you tried adding the Mint Menu applet to either one of your panels? (To do this, right click a bare spot on whichever panel you wish to add Mint Menu to, select 'Add to panel...', scroll down through the list until you see an entry labelled 'mintMenu', t...

Re: Mint Menu not loading correctly

Hm. well, you could add the Mint Menu to one of your panels from your Mint installation, however that may cause issues in your Ubuntu installation since by default it doesn't come with the Mint Menu applet. You could add the Mint repository to your Ubuntu installation and install the Mint Menu there...

Re: Mint Menu not loading correctly

Did you use the same home partition from your Ubuntu install as the home partition for your Mint install, and did you use the same user name for both distributions? If so, It's likely that Mint is using the settings already stored in your account folder on the home partition, in which case you'll be...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" RC released!

There's a (possibly unofficial) bug reports thread here for people who are having issues. I'm not sure if any of the devs or anyone are really looking into it seriously as there is also an official bug report page on launchpad here . I would recommend filing any bugs on the launchpad site since they...

Re: I lost window borders

There is indeed a segmentation fault when clicking the menu button/icon. Below is the console output from gtk-window-decorator just after clicking the button: ** (gtk-window-decorator:2345): CRITICAL **: Could not find frame info \xf0\xbc\u000d\u0002 in frame type table Segmentation fault Just curio...

Re: Linux Mint 11 RC – bug reports

I found out about another bug in the RC here. Turns out clicking the window menu button/icon on the title bar will disable the window decoration.

A simple way to restore it if that happens is to type 'gtk-window-decorator --replace' into the GNOME run dialog and it will come back up.

Re: I lost window borders

I decided to give it a try, and, wouldn't you know, clicking the window menu button/icon in the title bar disabled the window decoration for me as well. I suspect it might be a bug in gtk-window-decorator, but I may be wrong. Was a simple thing to bring the decoration back up, I just typed 'gtk-wind...

Re: Add workspaces to Mint 11 Gnome?

Have you tried starting CompizConfig Settings Manager from the Control Center, opening General Options, switching to the Desktop Size tab, and making sure it's set up correctly? Currently it defaults to 2 by 2 workspaces (probably upstream from Ubuntu for Unity), but can be easily changed to 4 by 1 ...

Re: Linux Mint 11 RC – bug reports

Just a quick update, turns out the GRUB (and BURG) problem I was having wasn't Katya's fault, it was LMDE's. After doing an update on LMDE (during which a new kernel was installed and the update-grub script there called), LMDE's entry was properly configured in BURG after updating it from Katya.

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" RC released!

Ohh, can you also run it without selecting a distro and version? I'll try it when I've finished my homework. I'm pretty sure you only need to select the distro you want to install if you haven't already downloaded an ISO, since I believe that will download the ISO for you then install it to your US...

Re: Linux Mint 11 RC – bug reports

Found another bug, added it to my list here . Seems GRUB (and BURG) use an incorrect UUID for my LMDE partition as the OS root when running update-grub (or update-burg) from Katya. The GRUB (and BURG) menu entry in grub.cfg (or burg.cfg) for LMDE reads as follows: menuentry "Debian GNU/Linux, with L...

Re: Linux Mint 11 RC – bug reports

I made a list here with all of the flaws I've run into in my testing, though I'm sure I could clarify anything that might not make sense, and I'm sure I haven't found everything I might ever encounter yet. The list is compiled pretty much entirely from just going about my normal use and keeping an e...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" RC released!

I'm testing out the RC currently and for the most part it works, but I've found a number of flaws that weren't present in Julia that I'm hoping will get ironed out before the final release. Some may or may not be Mint's problem and there may be nothing they can do about them, but they all do add up ...
