Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 22

Anyone else running into issues with GNOME updates from experimental recently..? I've had a problem with recent updates to libcogl-common, libcogl-pango0, gir1.2-cogl-1.0 and gir1.2-coglpango-1.0 (version 1.10.0-2) that causes GNOME Shell to constantly crash any time I attempt to load it, whether lo...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 22

A somewhat small break, but something that bugged me anyway that may or may not be a problem for or even noticed by other people: libcairo-gobject2 and libcairo2 from experimental (version 1.12.0-1) seem to cause some minor graphical anomalies with GNOME Shell (one I caught that bugged me was that t...

Eh, that's okay, it happens.

I'm just glad I found fixes to both of those issues. Everything else has been near perfect for me and fixing those brings my LMDE SID/Experimental setup back to its former glory.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 22

I cannot answer your questions about notifications other than to say that my 64bit Sid/LMDE hybrid running Gnome 3.2 shows notifications correctly. I do run the gnome-shell-classic-systray extension, which allows the likes of Skype to show an icon on the top toolbar rather than hidden in the Gnome ...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 22

A couple things I've encountered somewhat recently, one I've fixed by downgrading and one I can't for the life of me figure out... First, the version of libgtk-3-0 and related packages in experimental seem to ignore rendering anything using the Unico theme engine, at least on my system, causing any ...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I've been using GNOME 3 and the GNOME Shell for nearly as long as they've been around as well and I doubt if I could ever get used to GNOME 2 or any similar desktop again, even Windows doesn't have the right kind of feel for me anymore (and this is coming from someone who used Windows nearly exclusi...

This is Turpial. It's a microblogging client (eg. Twitter) written in Python.

As for the issue kruijf is having, I use Turpial and I haven't run into issues with it logging me out when I open links, so I wouldn't be able to say what could be causing something like that.

Re: Banshee hanging system

Unfortunately, I don't really know how to work around patching failures, I'd probably end up attempting to patch the file manually by opening the file to be patched and the patch(es) in a text editor and searching for the appropriate sections to patch. There has to be an easier way though... Perhaps...

Re: Banshee hanging system

You forgot to add the /home/<your user name> (or a . if you're in your home folder) before Downloads, resulting in the command looking for a Downloads folder in / (the filesystem root). Fix the command and try it again.

Re: Banshee hanging system

I expect you could leave Banshee running all day without problems now, though even just a couple hours should be long enough to determine if everything's okay, the issue usually manifested itself within about half an hour without the patches applied (at least for me).

Anyway, glad to help!

Re: Banshee hanging system

The "email address" you're referring to is actually the UUID (universally unique identifier) of the extension, and yes, you have to enter it as part of the command, since the extension's UUID is also the folder name in /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ where the extension resides. Personally, I wou...

Re: Banshee hanging system

If you're running GNOME 3 Shell with the MGSE extensions enabled, you probably have the faulty MGSE media player control/indicator extension enabled as well, and it's been found to cause GNOME Shell to stop responding properly after an indeterminable/somewhat random amount of time. If you look at th...

Re: Bang & Olufsen

Ah. I wasn't aware that the speakers were built into the laptop. I've done a quick web search and it seems you're not the only person who's encountered problems getting the built-in speakers to work with that particular laptop. This link may be somewhat helpful, as well as this one . I hope this hel...

Re: Bang & Olufsen

I hope it's safe to assume the speakers connect through the same 3.5mm stereo output jack the headphones do... Given that (as far as I know) there shouldn't be anything specific about a set of speakers that would cause them to specifically not work with Linux, I can only think to ask a few questions...

Re: Burg Bootloader Display Issues

I'm not sure if there's much you can do about it, I don't know how GRUB or BURG determine the available resolutions for a given display, but I do believe that, currently at least, widescreen resolutions just aren't available. I'm in a similar situation (my laptop's resolution is 1366x768, but only 1...

Re: No Gnome Shell Extension nor Gnome 3 / MGSE anywhere?

The reason you're not seeing the GNOME Shell extensions is because you're not running GNOME Shell, you're dropping into Fallback Mode. It could be that your graphics driver doesn't support 3D acceleration, which is required by GNOME Shell and Mutter in order for them to work. Unfortunately I don't r...

Re: Exclamation Point in Mint 12 - GNOME

I think he (she?) is referring to the exclamation point beside the workspace switcher on the bottom panel, which is a button to bring up the notification tray, since the bottom panel extension disables the lower-right hot corner that would normally bring it up.

Re: Easy to disable this MGSE and MATE things?

You can easily get a pure GNOME 3 experience by launching Advanced Settings, going to the Shell Extensions section, and switching all of the extensions to "Off". You may need to force a Shell restart by hitting Alt+F2 and typing 'r', then hitting the Enter key, to force some of the extensions to be ...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or other non-standard) BREAKAGES!

apt-listbugs lists a critical bug for sysvinit causing the system to break on reboot, so I guess I'm holding sysv packages back today.

There also appear to be newer libc packages in this batch, hopefully these have fixed the issues present in the last version.
