Re: Hello from NW Montana USA

Lucky, Welcome to the forum. I am north of you near Fortine. I had similar experiences with M$ 13 years ago. I spent $250 on MS Office Pro. A year later Outlook quit working for me. M$ said for $100 they could fix it. So I went to Ubuntu with a Dell Ubuntu laptop. Migrated to Linux Mint 11 after Ubu...

Re: What Text Editors come with KDE?

Hey guys! I made a booboo and installed "gedit" because Kate was annoying me, now Kate don't work right, and many packages were removed when installing gedit? I have a list saved upon install of gedit if needed. I also have nano installed but forget if I installed it or not. Really trying to log al...

Re: Mint 17.2 Kernel upgrade issue!

Joe, I once had the same issue when running Mint13 and Mint17 on my pc. It took me not long to found out that you cannot have two captains on one ship, so to speak. One of the distributions has to be in charge for updating the Grub boot manager. Laurent85 is absolutely right concerning this matter....

Re: [Solved] Petra Cron Environment has changed [Workaround]

Colyn, I have no idea whether the bug is KDE or Mint related. As a nice add on the old workaround, using Kalarm, no longer works in LM 17 KDE as Akondai is required and I cannot start it b/c of errors. Something else to track down. I think I am beginning to understand Clem's advice on moving to new ...

Re: [UnSolved] Petra Cron Environment has changed [Workaroun

This problem persists on LM 17 KDE so I suppose none of the developers had time for repair problems created. Are KDE and qdbus being treated like orphans?

Re: Critical crypto bug?

Hello, Henri. In Synaptic you can mark the libgnutls line, right-click, select properties and inside the properties click on the tab "description" and there finally press the button [Changelog]. This should allow you to go through the changelog. If you spot the note mentioning the bug number CVE-20...

Re: obvious bug is obvious

too bad that mint team has nothing to do with KDE. I think you should post this on KDE forum or that bug discussion. You are certainly more apt to get a response from the KDE Forum, usually within 24 hours. Often the response includes a solution or a suggestion for a work around. On this forum you ...

Re: Petra Cron Environment has changed-need help restoring i

A work around was provided by Google01103 on the kde forum. My thanks to him. http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=119541&p=301634#p301634 The workaround is to use kalarm instead of cron. It requires that Akonadi services be running and that you being logged in, but otherwise it works just fine...

[Solved] Petra Cron Environment has changed [Workaround]

Need help restoring it to pre-Petra release environment. In earlier releases of Linux Mint KDE (11-15) my cron job worked. Now in 16 (Petra) it no longer works because kmix service is not available. Here is the command in my /etc/crontab: 43 14 * * * rob export DISPLAY=:0 && rexx /home/rob/Dropbox/s...

@tsdadam,
Here it is almost a year later...
I used this tutorial again this afternoon as I lost access to Windows 8 after installing Petra KDE 64 bit. Your instructions still worked perfectly for me. I now have Petra KDE, Olivia KDE, and Windows 8 running in multiboot. Thanks again.

Re: qdbus is missing in Petra KDE 64bit

The plot thickens. I have a script named toggle_mute.rexx which mutes or unmutes sound on my machine(s). I have it scheduled to mute volume at midnight and unmute it at 7 am via cron. Here are the relevant cron entries in /etc/crontab: # Assign your own value or comment out: MAILTO=rcburness.noreply...

qdbus is missing in Petra KDE 64bit

I have a program that toggles sound on/off that ran fine in Olivia KDE 64 bit. When I run in in Petra KDE 64bit I get the following error: qdbus: could not exec '/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/bin/qdbus': No such file or directory I tried sudo apt-get install --reinstall qdbus, but that did not fix t...

Re: Solved (Again)? MDM will not let me log in

If no path statement exists in /etc/environment MDM fails with messages in .xsession-errors that lead me nowhere with Google searches. Something like "Error in MDM 5: exec; Init not found." I could press ctrl+alt+F2, login and issue startx and get the desktop, but Cron was not around along with many...

Re: Solved? MDM will not let me log in

This problem is back with Linux Mint 16 KDE 64 bit RC. If ~/.kde/env directory exists I cannot log in. Can this be fixed before the stable release? Here is the reference for setting environment variables in kde: http://userbase.kde.org/Session_Environment_Variables Maybe I should post this somewhere...

I am running on the live usb right now. 64 bit version. I will install it alongside Windows 8 and LM 15 KDE (64 bit) multiboot. This version solves all the problems I have had with the bad drivers for the g only wifi card I had on my HP Envy DV7-7200 laptop. I installed an Intel AC-7260 Dual-Band wi...

Re: when exactly is the kde version of petra due out?

Linux Mint 15 Cinnamon/Mate were released on May 29, 2013 and xfce on July 21st and kde on July 23 of 2013. Currently if Cinnamon/Mate were finalized on 11/30/2013 then xfce should release on January 21, 2014 and kde on January 23, 2014. I hope kde gets here sooner because I tried Mate and Cinnamon...
