Re: What OS Is best for me?

Smilodon wrote:Thanks, but which should I install with only 2gb of ram? 64bit or 32? Thanks again :).
It's all according to what your going to do with the computer, both will work, But I would suggest 32bit with 2gbs of ram. I would suggest around 4gbs for 64bit, for 64bit make a bigger ram footprint.

Re: Mint 16 KDE Applications just close

My biggest problem has been Iceweasel and Firefox, ended up having to install the Pale Moon tarball, at least all it does is crash and not take my desktop with it. But I can run scripts in GIMP for hours and not have a problem.

Re: Mint 16 KDE Applications just close

I've been having a similar problem with KDE Debian. This is seeming to help for me. Under destop effects, advanced tab, go down to general options and tick Suspend desktop effects for fullscreen windows and apply.

Re: The Minty Blues-- file differences from Windows?

The only other issue you might face is that Linux has no problem with creating, saving, and then using a file with a name that contains "special" characters whereas Windows rejects it outright. I think this is the full list of special characters: " * / : < > ? \ | I forgot about that...

Re: The Minty Blues-- file differences from Windows?

For "sneaker net" ;) I haven't had a problem just letting Windows format the thumb drives to fat32 and transfer files that way. My external harddrives are formatted NTFS, I switch files that way also with the only problem being is the Linux like writing all over the harddrive so keeping th...

Re: Gotta hate parents

I was blessed with family that actually payed attention to what I was doing. Computers were bigger than the house when I was growing up, but I was building my own radio when I was a teen. Instead of getting me a portable radio,[which would have been cheaper] my mother took an interest in what I was ...

medibuntu went to the big bit heaven in the sky.;) Just remove it from your resources list in the update manager, then everything else should run normally after a refresh. Anything that was in medibuntu is now backed up in other servers.

Re: AOL on Linux Mint 16?

Don't even get me started on Yahoo mail. Marissa Mayer took the company down. The new Yahoo philosophy is "if it works, break it". I haven't used a desktop email client in years I might just take your recommendation to bypass using yahoo mail. Super slow loading and all kinds of dumb symb...
