Problem with viewing videos on Facebook

I have a friend who is using Linux Mint 17 and they tell me that they are having a problem with not being able to view some type of video clips on Facebook (I am not a Facebook user - thus I know nothing about it). Is there currently an on-going problem with the Facebook application that is causing ...

Re: update of Icedtea plugin

In firefox go to the Tool, then add-ons, and then plug-ins. Set icetea to "ask to activate". go into the Edit, then Preferences and find the area for automatic updates to Firefox and disable it. I can't say exactly where it is because I killed mine using about:config process instead. I also have fl...

Re: unresponsive script error message

The untrusted certificate means just that; they have secured transmission between you and them with an untrusted certificate. That can be fine, if you trust this website. But it's a red flag to stop and investigate: - Has the site been compromised? - Is this actually the website you intended to vis...

Re: unresponsive script error message

Nope. Unresponsive script means just that: the website is running some code on your computer, and it's taking so long to complete that Firefox warns you about it--giving you the option to kill it. If you trust the website, you can let it continue (to waste your time :)). Usually a sign of a poorly ...

unresponsive script error message

Am getting an "unresponding script" error message on a certain website that I go to on a regluar basis. What is the cause and cure for this problem ? Please note that this script error freezes the browser, i.e. clicking on the continue button, etc. does nothing to cure the problem. I notice that the...

Re: Can browser "HISTORY" be backed up in Firefox

No... what I usually do is login as the desired user on the target machine and open Firefox once - then close it. This will create the .mozilla folder and the FF profile for that user. I then copy the source profile from the source machine to a USB stick... then take the stick to the target machine...

Re: Can browser "HISTORY" be backed up in Firefox

For each user, the information stored by Firefox and any customizations, are stored in the Firefox Profile located in the user's home folder. You can back up EVERYTHING Firefox for a user by copying the profile. The profile is located in a hidden folder called .mozilla. The location on disk is /hom...

Can browser "HISTORY" be backed up in Firefox

Is it possible to backup (for later restoring to another installation of LM) the HISTORY (not talking about bookmarks) in the Firefox browser ? If I go under history and navigate to the backup function, what it seems to do is to backup the bookmarks, just the same as if I navigated to backup functio...

Re: How to retain color (white) of icon text

I have the same question, but the other way around ... I like to change to and keep black text for icons. Is there a way to change between black and white (or even other colors?) It looks like the system picks white when you pick a dark color desktop and picks black when you pick a light color desk...

How to retain color (white) of icon text

Can someone tell me how to retain the color (white) of the desktop icon text after changing the desktop background to a solid color (lets say a medium blue) ? When I do the above, INITIALLY the text of the desktop icons are WHITE (which I like and are very readable) but when I reboot the computer th...

Which BIOS type to use with Linux Mint 17 mate

I have a friend who wants to try Linux Mint 17 Mate on his "fairly" new Gateway laptop computer as a possible replacement for its MS$ OS. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order so as to allow for the booting of the machine to a bootable USB thumb drive that I had burned. But while in the BIOS...

gtsfer wrote:Yes, it's OK. The machine and OS you are using doesn't matter. It's the downloaded ISO file that does. if you download a 64-bit version that's what you're "gonna get" when you run live mode or install LM.
That's what I thought but just wanted to make ABSOLUTELY sure.

Thanks.

SOLVED making 64bit USB key drive version on 32 bit computer

Is it OK (proper) to use USB image writer on a 32 bit version of Linux Mint 17 to make a bootable USB key of a 64 bit version of of Linux Mint 17 or should 64 bit USB image writer keys only be made from a machine that is running a 64 bit version of Linux Mint 17 ?

Thanks.

Re: Is it possible to save a partial game on Linux Mint

Hi kpat does allow this (available in the software manager) Other games have to be checked individually to see if they have an option to save in the middle of the game (reminds of games on windows where you could only save at the end of a leve, also raised my bloodpressure to the max  ) Thanks...

Re: Is it possible to save a partial game on Linux Mint

Whether a game allows you to save or not is up to each individual game. You have tried some games that don't have a save feature, that is all. This has nothing to do with Linux Mint. I am told by the MS$ user that I just transferred to LM17 that their MS version of Freecell allows for the saving of...

Is it possible to save a partial game (on Linux Mint 17 - cinnamon - for instance freecell) and come back to finish it later.

I see no save function, am I missing it ?

Looking for good (not that scare-mare stuff) backgrounds (1600 x 900 resolution) for LM 17 cinnamon - other than those listed after installation.
