Re: Why no "format" and similar functions on right click on

would be nice if linux had that. but i assume unlike windows, linux does not have a built in partition app. Gparted is on live dvd but not on the installed version of linux and even the apps made for partition managing in linux dont have feature to use with context menus. I suppose eventualy it wil...

Why no "format" and similar functions on right click on USB

Why is there no "format" and other similar functions available when right clicking on say a USB drive in MINT version 14 ? There are a whole group of functions displayed on the menu that pops up but they are grayed out !!!! Is there something that needs to be installed or configured for these functi...

Re: Using thumb drive to install Linux Mint

I think Startup Disk Creator should work but I always use UNetbootin. Live USB runs and installs faster than Live CD/DVD. I went back and installed Unetbootin from within Ubuntu and then used it to burn Linux Mint ISO to thumb drive and then booted to it and maybe I am wrong but it sure seemed to b...

Re: Using thumb drive to install Linux Mint

[quote="/Zoran\"]Startup disk creator works without a hitch, i just installed LM on a netbook with a USB thumb drive created with it and everything went fine, it was actually faster. But first make sure that your computer can boot from the USB, if it doesn't have a DVD drive, perhaps it's too old to...

Using thumb drive to install Linux Mint

I am currently using Ubuntu 11.04 and I am anticipating switching to Linux Mint 13. I do NOT have a DVD burner on my computer - it is a desktop. According to what I am seeing none of the Mint ISOs will fit on my 700mb CDs. Can I use the "Startup Disk Creator" function in Ubuntu to make a bootable co...

Thanks for that suggestion but unfortunately I do not have a DVD drive (only CD). Any way around that problem that you know of ?

Thanks.

corruption on screen/display just after login

I am looking for a distro to use instead of Ubuntu 12.04. I just can stand that Unity interface. Have tried other interfaces on 12.04 and none of them are 100% satisfactory. I have tried several different distributions of Linux and I think I am going to opt for Linux Mint 12. One small problem I hav...

Re: Correct version of Skype for Linux Mint 11

If it is grayed out, then you do not have the updated version available for some reason. I must have made some updates to my system that I have forgotten, so enabled different repositories. In this case you may have to download it from the Skype site, just double click on the deb file to install af...

Re: Correct version of Skype for Linux Mint 11

I have the default Skype 2.2.0.25-1 (Katya) installed, but Skype 2.2.0.35 (natty) is also available in the Synaptic Package Manager. Select Skype, and choose Package->Force version from the menu to see the choices. In general there is no reason to report that old versions of software are in the pac...

Re: Correct version of Skype for Linux Mint 11

I don't see where any of this REALLY answers my question of who to report fact that old (i.e. outdated version) is being used.

Thanks.

That really does not answer my question as to what Skype_static is or ultimately my problem that the version of Skype that is currently included with version 11 of Linux Mint does not work !!!

Any ideas as to what Skype_static is ?

Thanks.

Skype_static - what is it ???

I notice that on the download page for Skype for Linux there are several versions available including one named Skype_Static.

What is Skype_static & how does it differ from say the 32 bit version that is listed for use with Ubuntu ?

Can the Skype_static version be used with Linux Mint 11 ?

Thanks.

Re: What version of Skype will properly work on Linux Mint 1

I have Skype 2.2.0.25-1 available from Software Manager and it shows up as Beta, but works perfectly. What about Skype won't work on your machine? Actually this is on my brother's computer. He uses Skype to keep in touch with his daughter at college. I did have him using Ubuntu but I recently switc...

Have a machine that is running Linux Mint 11. Skype will not work. Skype is being installed from Synaptic Package manager. Linux Mint & Unity

Are there any plans in the works (that you know of) for Linux Mint to go and spoil a perfectly good operating system by switching from Gnome interface to that "Unity" interface like Ubuntu has done recently ?

Thanks.
