Re: GeForce FX 5900 and Mint

Thankyou for replying so quickly hotweiss :) Well, I have been going through the process as described in the steps. I tried the different driver as suggested, but got the reply "The NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 GPU installed in this system is supported through the NVIDIA 173.14.xx legacy Linux graphics d...

Re: GeForce FX 5900 and Mint

I've been trying to install a driver on Mint for my GeForce FX 5900 video card. I'm running the latest version of mint and wondering do I need to go to an older version of Mint for a driver to work for my card? The problem when I am trying to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.12-pkg1.run is there is ...

This probably will not help, but all of my internet connection problems have always been due to my wireless router... Do you get these problems when you are directly plugged in?

Re: Linux Mint 6 x64 RC1 released!

If this is a RC, wow, it's working, period As the Mints I have used before, it was running out of the box, and is working happily. No problems with flash as I have them encountered with ubuntu 8.10 x64. How comes it, that Clem and the others can do a job that the paid developers at Ubuntu can not d...

Re: Internet disconnects when loading high-quality flash videos

I've tried your fix, and it produced some improvement--my connection doesn't consistently get cut off, but it does probably half the time. Also, CPU usage is still very high. I do not notice any difference, however, when viewing YouTube HD videos; these are still extremely choppy. Well HD videos ar...

Re: Linux Mint 6 x64 RC1 released!

Yes the Nvidia is very unstable with wine! I finally figured out what was causing my wine to crash. The crashes are due to a wine bug. Wine is written in 32 bit code so it is limited to 4 GB of memory. When you have more than 4 GB of memory, the wine bug that is causing the crashes doesn't put a st...

Re: Hibernate and suspend on laptop, PLEASE help!

To enable hibernate after you mess around with your swap partition, you have to make a few steps to get your uuid's matching: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/295629 See if this solution will get your suspend to ram working: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Ubuntu_8.1...

Re: Hibernate and suspend on laptop, PLEASE help!

When I first installed mint I did not create a swap partition because I found it unnecessary performance-wise. Now I discovered that swap partitions are necessary for hibernate as well.. didn't think of that one... so now I have created a 5 GB swap file which appears to work just fine, system monit...

Hi to all, thank you for this 64 bit os. It installed without problems. I Spend a lot of time converting my laser Disks to dvd. Via dvgrab, kino, openmovieeditor, All load up but are unstable, this I think is the nvidia driver, I have changed this today, and dvgrab and kino seem to be ok. One other...

Re: 4 Gig Memory

What I did was disable the Raid, which in turn gives me a much faster boot up, but I only show 2.5 gig available in the 32 bit version. I have tried several bios configurations. Its really strange, the bios show 4096 installed 2.5 gig available? Weird, Don't worry it will show you 4GB once you actu...
