Re: maths inside a script, what's wrong here

I learn now that acpi -b does actually give the percentage I want and works on this netbook, wherever it gets this info. But it prints Battery 0: Discharging, 17%, 01:02:05 remaining which is too much detail. How could I trim this to either 17% or Battery: 17% or even 01:02:05 remaining The line in ...

maths inside a script, what's wrong here

I have only dipped into using bash but have been trying to use this script as a startup script using the DWM window manager (with Slim as display manager) - the stuff below shows up on DWM's top-aligned 'panel'. My netbook has its battery info in what may be unusual places and it seems I'd need to c...

terminal command for full updates?

I've used both sudo apt-get upgrade and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade this morning both showing no updates. 131mb of updates were then available using the gui.

Is this sounding strange or did I use the wrong command?

Thanks.

formatting pendrives becomes chaos (DD resolution?)

I try out other distros and desktops quite a bit but this felt an easier job when using Windows tools. Nowadays re-formatting the disks seems very hit and miss - sometimes the disks seem dead, as they aren't seen or don't light up, and for the first time I'm seeing this message a lot: "/dev/sdf cont...

Re: 'fanless' cpu

Can it be anything to do with sensors3.conf? This seems to have some similar content to fancontrol which is not working as it finds no pwm module. (I added coretemp to no avail.) At present my laptop will be using something which presumably has a .conf somewhere? Is there a default program Mint or M...

'fanless' cpu

I have one of the once Linux-allergic Atom N2800-based netbooks. I was pleased to see the breakthrough this year when Ubuntu 13.04 almost behaved and then the KDE version of Mint 15 proved an ideal OS to stick with - everything works except a couple of hotkeys whose function I've reassigned. I'm onl...

Re: Dolphin window manager

I might be wrong, but that looks like the 'cascade' effect.

System Settings > Window Behaviour > Window Behaviour > 'Advanced' tab > Placement > choose 'Cascade'

(I'm unsure if I should have got these translated from English, apologies.)

Re: mintupdate.py in KDE - make it manual?

That worked, thanks. I did not at first understand as I didn't know what you meant by specification. I used NotShowIn=KDE added to /etc/xdg/autostart/mintupdate.desktop which I intend to copy to /home/[username]/.kde/share/autostart soon. I did at first try to just delete mintupdate.desktop from tha...

mintupdate.py in KDE - make it manual? [Solved]

I'm using 64 bit Mint 15 KDE and would like to stop the Mint Update program from starting. I see you can change settings concerning how frequently it looks for updates, though I'm not sure this actually works judging by the visual feedback on the panel - it still seems to run at every boot. mintupda...

Re: Amarok eq

For anyone interested the frequencies are as follows, with the first slider being merely the pre-amp:

60 hz, 170, 310, 600 hz, 1 khz, 3, 6, 12, 14, 16 khz

Amarok eq [Solved]

Can anyone tell me what the frequencies are in the graphic EQ Amarok uses? I could tune it by instinct but I've got used to knowing what each of my headphones needs going by frequency. It just says 'band 1', 'band 2' etc.

Thanks.

Mint 7 on an old Thinkpad in 2013

Though experienced with Linux since 2008 and currently using Mint 13 and 15 on two machines, I've experimented to the point of exhaustion with an IBM T22 that came with Windows 2000. I couldn't ignore it on eBay for £25, but newer editions of Mint and Xubuntu/Lubuntu have problems with DVD video tha...

Can the KDE desktop be 'locked down'?

I've been preparing a desktop pc made from my spares for a friend. I've put Mint KDE 13 64 bit on it, made it simple to use for the friend and her kids by putting some taskbar icons and adding a few programs, doing the updates and I've locked the widgets but I wonder if there's anything else I can d...

Re: Could someone in the UK test this for me please?

This seems to be to do with 'digital rights error 3322' as another computer running Debian 7 rc tells me. Resetting flash licences as suggested by Channel 4 doesn't work though.

Re: Kobo Arc Android tablet not seen

Nice, several hours later I'm nearly there I think. The rule in the previous post should read: SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="2237", ATTR{idProduct}=="d108", MODE="0666", OWNER="xxx" where your own Linux username, as per what you chose during your Mint installation, goes where the three x's are,...

Re: Kobo Arc Android tablet not seen

H'm, Amarok can see the Kobo Arc now, maybe that's progress, though when I asked it to copy one album to the Arc it dumped two of the twelve tracks there on their own with no folder and then stopped the transfer. There are too many assumptions on some how-to pages though, for instance when on an Arc...

Re: Kobo Arc Android tablet not seen

If I get nowhere I can at least use this advice to move new Cd rips with this method: "I found that I could transfer files into folders DCIM and PICTURES in the PTP mode. So I zipped my files transferred them to DCIM folder. Later using filemanger (I used Androidzip since they were zip files) unzipp...

Re: Kobo Arc Android tablet not seen

Thanks, that wasn't installed but it hasn't helped. I find that my Sansa Clip mp3 player is seen though. I think it's one of those .rules things somehow, it's kind of like when a dongle is seen as a cd drive and not a usb modem. But I've got a brain fog and casn't think what to do next. All ideas we...

Kobo Arc Android tablet not seen

If I type lsusb in the terminal I get Bus 001 Device 007: ID 2237:d108 Kobo Inc. at the bottom of the list. If I change the Arc's mode from MTP to camera Mint will be able ot use its pictures folders, but as MTP I'm not offered to open the Arc in the File Manager, no device is seen. I remember using...

Good, thanks - couple of entries in about:config that almost mean the same and end up contradictory, to my mind.
