Re: Could someone in the UK test this for me please?

I get the turning arrow/disc thing that you'd get if something may be about to start, but that justs hangs there turning. The shows that are archived on that site do play after the briefest pause as normal. Also, the problem wasn't present using Solus OS as live usb just now (newest version seemingl...

Could someone in the UK test this for me please?

Flashplayer is working on YouTube, Vimeo, and BBC iPlayer. Nothing new will play on 4od though, when using Linux Mint (14, KDE, 64 bit and 32 bit Cinnamon 14), though archived programs seem fine. These two don't: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/4od/collections/70-the-drugs-dont-work http://www.ch...

Firefox multiple tabs glitch [Solved]

I remember this issue from a while back but it is happening in Mint 14 KDE 64 bit, though I've checked and toggled the relevant places in Firefox itself (including in about:config). I vaguely remember a KDE system setting I think that also deals with this but can't remember where it is and maybe it'...

2 KDE questions

I'm hoping to stick with Linux Mint 14 64 bits KDE edition after four years of Windows and Linux seesawing as this Mint does now seem pretty well polished, but I've had one issue today and another question to put here. I use Redshift to correct the brownish greys of my Hanns G monitor, and with Cinn...

Cinnamon downgrade fails [Solved]

I used the Romeo repository to install Cinnamon 1.6 but 1.4 still seems preferable glitch-wise, to me. I'll wait until a natural update of Cinnamon. I was shrewd enough to set Gnome classic as the default desktop then before removing the Romeo repository, purging cinnamon and reinstalling. Only now ...

Re: Chrome and Flashplayer glitch

I've just gone back to Chromium and it's fine with Flashplayer - got the idly sitting on the panel issue back though... Maybe Chromium has an update soon.

Chrome and Flashplayer glitch

I'd been using Chromium as my browser but on a whim installed Chrome, removing Chromium and all its config and cache files first. Chrome is playing videos oddly - they play fast for a second, then freeze for a few seconds, then fast again. Is there a procedure someone here's well-rehearsed in that I...

Re: Mobile Broadband and Cinnamon/Gnome 3

The image compression issue I've worked out. Hopefully there'll be no side effects like a drastic raise in data use. I clicked on the Network Manager tray icon, chose Network Settings > Mobile Broadband tab > Options > PPP Settings and then took the ticks out of all the boxes there apart from 'Avail...

Mobile Broadband and Cinnamon/Gnome 3

I mostly use mobile broadband, currently with Vodafone. The dongle modem (K3805-Z) works, after a minor scripting procedure I googled a year ago, but the Network Manager applet seems to act oddly in either Cinnamon or possibly in Gnome 3 if that's where the applet is derived from. If I want to disco...

Hibernation/ Suspend - I'm in the dark

I don't think I've ever properly understood Hibernation and Suspend or Sleep functions in general, whether in Windows or Linux. Could someone here summarise things in relation to Mint (13, Cinnamon, 64 bit)? I was sure that up till a few days ago the computer would go into a sleep mode, or whatever ...

Re: AMD graphics driver question [Solved]

The program Redshift has been the answer. I purged the proprietary graphics driver (sudo apt-get purge fglrx*) and installed Redshift (sudo apt-get install gtk-redshift), then placed the command redshift -l 51.0:0.1 -t 6700:6700 -g 0.8:0.8:1.0 in the Startup Applications (Startup Applications > Add ...

AMD graphics color temp question [Solved]

For quite a while I settled for the open source driver for my graphics card, the default. I've installed the proprietary one now and it has helped get rid of a brownish look to greys, but it is slower - windows open jerkily and menus briefly flash black when opened. This is a 3ghz dual core machine ...

Tout - a Cinnamon theme

I had posted this before and then deleted it after realising it wouldn't display right on others' computers. It's all fine now. This began with me wanting to alter the Baldr theme so that the Ubuntu font was gone, but then I started to alter other things, like making the panel background more distin...

Re: DD, formatting and secure erasure

Okay thanks for that.

Is there any other means in Linux to securely erase potions of a disk not currently used by the operating system and user data, like the function described in CCleaner?

DD, formatting and secure erasure

When I used windows, CCleaner had a new feature that let you securely erase a disk or better still securely overwrite unused space, so you could delete your personal data, use this and then sell a machine without installing Windows and hours of updates. Can DD overwrite just unused portions of a dis...

Re: Can this line be a script/ be automated?

Thanks. It's turned out to be even simpler after finding a similar request for an automated terminal command function. The same /etc/rc.local file you suggest just has the sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1c10 added to it before the line begining 'exit'. So I've been able to get rid o...

Can this line be a script/ be automated? [Solved]

I use Mobile Broadband, and there is currently a bug where the Huawei E173 dongle has to be kicked awake each boot with this terminal command before I can get online: sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1c10 I was thinking it must be possible to automate this in a simple script, or maybe...
