Re: Re: 2 quick questions

Ok well to your first question about the menu you just click the little mint/mate/whatever button to open it one time, then move over the rest of the menu, and to your other question yes you can install cinnamon alongside mate through synaptic or the terminal. Thank you but I mean it happens from a...

2 quick questions

Hey all, I tried Linux a couple of years back but ended up going back to windows for a couple of reasons, which I won't go into here. I decided to try Linux mint 14 last night completely removing windows. :) Anyway, 2 questions. Everything seems to be working OK , even the issues I had before, but I...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking Testing - read here first-10/

Anyone with an ATI gfx card know if it's safe to update libglew1.6 yet? I've updated everything else but held that one back. Everything else working so far.

Re: LMDE Installer Problem - No Partitions Listed in Install

Hiya, I'm afraid there's a bug in the LMDE installer where it stops searching for partitions if it finds 1 it can't install to, such as a raid array.

You need to make the drive you want to install to the first drive it sees, ie SDA

Hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy LMDE :)

Re: eclipse removed from testing repo???

E: Release file for http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/dists/testing/InRelease is expired (invalid since 29d 12h 46min 2s). Updates for this repository will not be applied. Thanks. type this in a terminal and try it again: sudo echo 'Acquire::Check-Valid-Until "false";' > /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/80mint...

Re: eclipse removed from testing repo???

twa, that's the linux Mint latest repo, we're on Debian testing :) That said, it certainly would be safer to upgrade from that repo than sid, IMHO. What is true address for this repo for 64bit ?? deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/ testing main contrib non-free ?? Nearly, it would be: deb http:...

Re: eclipse removed from testing repo???

I search it and find it in sid repo !! and not allow install it (depend error!) why ?? I'm guessing it would be because the eclipse in the sid repo depends on newer versions of packages you either don't have or cannot be upgraded unless you get those from sid repo as well. But I'd be very careful i...

Re: eclipse removed from testing repo???

Code: Select all

~ $ apt-cache policy eclipse
eclipse:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: (none)
  Version table:
Confirmed :(

But that version was old anyway (3.5 IIRC). http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ now has 3.7 :)

Re: Plymouth theme for LMDE - V2 8/21/11

Tested this on laptop with XFCE LMDE RC and it works fine, so still unsure what the issue is on this main PC. But, it does seem to drop into text mode when you restart and just says "System is restarting" across screen where before I just had the usual shutdown text, so I suspect the drivers to be t...

Re: Plymouth theme for LMDE - V2 8/21/11

Gfx drivers were installed via package manager, i do have smxi installed, but didn't use it to install these particular drivers (11.7). Saying that, all of the themes do the same thing...

I've followed the instructions and now get no text but I only get a blue bar getting bigger across the bottom. System boots fine.

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

Update pack 2 all installed with nothing to report :) (or :( if you've read my thread about being bored lol )

And just for giggles I did a backup and reinstalled lmde from scratch and went straight to Update Pack 2, again no issues :) ( :( )

Nice work!

Re: We need more testers to the new incoming repo (how-to)

Hi zerozero, I wouldn't mind being a tester but as a relative newbie to Linux I dont think that I would be much use. I mearly use the programs and have no idea about code but good luck anyway :D :D I wouldn't worry about that too too much, even reporting a problem you can't fix would help as it wou...

Re: LM11 RAID Support = NO??

I could be wrong here but I always thought real hardware RAID presented the drives as 1 drive to the OS, so it shouldn't be /dev/mapper/anything but actually /dev/sdX? You sure you're not on FakeRAID (IE built into motherboard BIOS)? Have you tried creating a boot partition (100Mb or so)? Doesn't an...

Re: Folder Sharing From Mint to Windows 7 (wirelessly)

Well, at first glance you appear to have done everything right, but I noticed I had to log out and back in to get my Linux PC to show on the Windows Laptop. Failing that ensure Windows is set up correctly in regards to having Network Discovery enabled, you've set the Network to Local and your firewa...
