Re: When online, computer clock is 4 hours ahead

Check /etc/timezone or /etc/rc.conf to see if you have the correct time zone configuration?

Re: anyone else get skype working?

What do you mean when you say "nothing shows?" Some versions of skype come with white font on a white background. To change, go into skype options and change "Style" in the "General" category to something other than "Cleanlooks".

Re: can't record sound.

I use LMDE with LXDE replacing XFCE. You might try pavucontrol. It works as a replacement for gnome-volume control. You might also install mate-media which is a lightweight package including some controls. See http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#17 for details.

Re: Where is LXDE 64bit?

As reported above, I have been experimenting with after market LXDE installs on different 64-bit systems. For anyone interested, my conclusions follow. Mint 13 Mate is heavy with a lot of stuff to remove, but works well. Xubuntu 12 was easy to adapt and fast but has too many, mostly hidden (imaginar...

Re: LXDE- no Administration or System options in main menu

System->Administration->Printing I don't think LXDE ever offers an Administration category. Printing is in Preferences : http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#18 . An after market install of LXDE is usually easier to accomplish if you start from lxde-core . See Sections 20-22 in http://d...

Re: Login Manager?

The answer to your question is LXDM. However, LXDE consists of only 10 packages. I always start with lxde-core, which includes the most important ones, and then add others as desired. See, for example Numbers 20-22 in http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/lubuntu.html.

Re: Where is LXDE 64bit?

The "cutting edge" of LMDE kinda freaks me out... I can understand that. I'm still experimenting. Most recently installed LXDE over an Xubuntu 12.04, XFCE. Was pleasantly surprised. LXDE and XFCE fit together nicely. Little duplication and little to remove. If it's stable, I'll probably place it ah...

Re: Where is LXDE 64bit?

LXDE over Mint LMDE 64-bit working great - see Section 21 inhttp://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/lubuntu.html. See the main Guide for putting Wine on with Debian packages. But no easy Remastersys apparently for Debian based systems.

Re: How to set up a default screen resolution?

Use Arandr to set your resolution. Save it. It should be saved in .screenlayout in your home directory. Add that saved file to Autostart. See http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#16 for more details, albeit for setting up dual monitors but the same procedure should work for a single moni...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

...in terms of web browsing. Lubuntu, for me, was subject to frequent random hangs which on LM12 LXDE are a rarity (not altogether vanished, though). I think this may be more a function of the browser-system combination, than just the operating system. Firefox and the latest Lubuntu do not work wel...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

@seppalta - Thanks for this write-up. Your welcome. I think it is going to be a great operating system. It may have a little extra weight but anyone considering a 64-bit system should have adequate resources to basically just store a few extra libraries. It certainly has that Mint smoothness and re...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

I have been running LXDE desktop on the 64-bit Mint 13 Mate operating system for a few days now. With one exception everything seems to be working as it should and is very fast. This is on a Compaq 8710w with 4GB ram. One nice feature was the old gnome-volume-control, lighter than pavucontrol and ju...

Re: Has anyone installed MATE on Mint 12 LXDE?

To get the volume control, mate-media, I added deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ maya main upstream import . It worked perfectly.
