Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

...like it so much that I'm thinking about running it on my desktop. It is the only desktop that I use anymore. Also, it appears to run very well on different distributions. Right now I run mostly WattOS, which will be soon coming out with a new release, R6 - 64-bit. R5 (64-bit) is very clean and f...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

Interm report for LXDE on Mint 13 Gome-mate, 64-bit, Linux 3.2.0-24-generic kernel . So far looking good. Sound, video, internet, netwok, wallpaper rotator, skype, wine, quadruple mail launch, lxmed, sunjava6, openbox app menu with icons, all working perfectly on Compaq 8710W with 4GB RAM and T7300,...

Re: Alt+F2 in LXDE doesn't bring up "run program" dialog

Check .config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml . On mine it reads <!--keybindings for LXPanel --><keybind key="W-r"><action name="Execute"><command>lxpanelctl run</command></action></keybind><keybind key="A-F2"><action name="Execute"><command>lxpanelctl run</command></action></keybind> . At worst, you can create...

Re: Linux Mint LXDE 13 LTS?

If it were me, and I wanted LXDE, I'd install it on top on Mint 13 MATE. That should give 5 years security updates and a very solid OS. I've installed LXDE onto Mint before with no issues, just use synaptic package manager. I did this on a Mint 12 a few months ago and it worked very well. See http:...

Re: add shutdown button on taskbar

You have to add it like an application. See http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html#4 . There should be a shutdown desktop file in /usr/share/applications. Be sure it is correct to display a shutdown in one of the menu categories from which you can add it to the taskbar panel in the usual w...

Re: install other keyboard layouts in LXDE

"To finalize the procedure, right click a panel (taskbar) and add Keyboard Layout Switcher (see Section 4). The flag of the default keyboard country will appear on the panel. When clicked the keyboard will change and the icon should display a new flag."

Re: Hooked on mint-fm2...

You seem to be asking for 2 different things: keyboard access and right-click-desktop access to main menu. I can't help with the former but there are a variety of ways to get applications menus via clicking the desktop, none of which is much different than just clicking the panel main menu icon. The...

There is substance in being very good at a few things rather than mediocre at many. Besides there are many very good LXDE systems available. My favorite is WattOS, http://planetwatt.com/.

Re: "Places" menu on panel? Mint 12 LXDE

I'm not sure what you are asking. "...uncheck the items..." ? If you do not want an application to show in the Main Menu, but you do want its desktop file to remain in a desktop file directory, then simply add (as root) the line NoDisplay=true to its desktop file. Not assigning a Category will also ...

Re: "Places" menu on panel? Mint 12 LXDE

The necessary information is all there. If you look at the first image in section 11, you see the only way to the panel (taskbar) is via an application desktop file through the Main Menu. To get a desktop file, you need an exec . To get an exec for a place , you need a simple bash script, which is b...

Re: Mint LXDE 12 will not shut down

The shutdown exec for LXDE is <b>Exec=lxde-logout</b>. Desktop file(s) for shutdown should be in /usr/shares/applications. Change NoDisplay=true to NoDisplay=false and identify a Category to put shutdown in the menu. Mint 12 has a gtk-logout-helper in /usr/lib/indicator-session . http://douwil7.100w...

Re: LXDE USB Automount of NTFS drive permissions issues

I had to give it away. Really sorry to hear this. Seems strange - I've been using LXDE in a variety of systems on a variety of computers for quite some time. Very stable and very adjustable once you learn the methods. I have many external hard drives, most fat32 or ext4, but some have been NTFS, re...

Re: how to edit autostart?

You need to be root to edit autostart. In Pcmanfm click tools, then Open current folder as root to open directory containing autostart. Now whatever you do to the autostart file can be saved. http://douwil7.100webspace.net/linux/Tuning.html
