Re: LMDE XFCE UP4: No 3.2 kernel & SAMBA Guest Account on l

MikeC, regarding the kernel, i think that when you installed the pae, somehow the system missed the meta-pkgs (there's 2, one for the headers and one for the image) >>of course this is an amd64 output (look in synaptic according) amadeu@amadeu:~$ dpkg --list | egrep '(linux-image*)|(linux-headers*)...

Re: Desktop Background disappearing

I have totally removed Nautilus (I didn't want it in the first place!), and even renamed the /home/MyUserName/.config folder and had xfce rebuild it. Still, I get no desktop icons nor a desktop background, just black that doesn't seem to pay attention to the xfce settings. I'm sure its something sim...

[SOLVED?]Desktop Background disappearing

Just did the UP4 install, and for a couple of reboots everything looked fine after I switched back to the Mint-X theme. Now, though, I get my normal background (the Mint Debian screen) on the login screen, and for a few seconds after I login, but then the background goes dark purple and it won't cha...

[PARTIAL SOLVE] No 3.2 kernel & SAMBA Guest acct on gdm3 scr

I just went through the UP4 installation (1400+ files, 90 minutes), and it went fine except for 2 very minor things: I didn't get the 3.2 kernel, though it looked like I got some of the header files. I'm still at 2.6.39-2-686-pae, and while this doesn't really bother me, I am curious as to why my ma...

Re: HOW TO: Solve your LMDE audio issues

I had to make sure I put the right option for my computer (an HP Pavillion HDX 16 laptop) into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd-hda-intel model=hp-hdx I also had some luck with: options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 But, obviously, the first one worked best. For anyone who is down on PulseAud...

Re: Password required in Debian Mint Live?

Turns out that unetbootin v555 worked fine with the new respin of LMDE XFCE. The problem was that the stick I was using didn't agree with the computer I was using to make it but it worked fine on my home machine (an HP laptop). But it is interesting to know that the Pendrive boot maker doesn't work....

I'm sure the ISO I ended up with is good, since it makes a perfectly working DVD.

I upgraded to the latest version of unetbootin (v555), but no change, with the stick formatted as either FAT or FAT32.

Re: Password required in Debian Mint Live?

Following up with my earlier post: Though I should mention, I've been perusing all day and I'm sure I read somewhere that unetbootin was not compatible with Linux Mint 11. If I can dig up the link again, I'll post it... Here is the URL to the commentator who says unetbootin doesn't work with Linux ...

Re: Thunar right-click menu won't stay

check this, might works for you http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=74239#p437586 It worked for me on Mint-X-Metal-Xfce theme. By the way, is it normal to get default Xfce theme settings after install instead of Mint-X? I kinda expected to see minty look after install as it is in live...

Re: Thunar right-click menu won't stay

I suggest you go to Men>settings>Appearance and for the style select Xfce-4.6 I don't know why this works All of the Xfce-* themes seemed to work, as well as some of the ones above, though not the various Minx-X* themes. Very strange to be sure; it must have been introduced in the last mini batch o...

Re: Thunar right-click menu won't stay

check this, might works for you http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=110&t=74239#p437586 I don't think that made a difference; I am using the Mint-X theme, and if I comment out that line (or change it to say gtk-menu-display-delay = 0), after a reboot it works normally the first time I right...

[SOLVED] Thunar right-click menu won't stay

I just did a few updates today, and all of a sudden Thunar won't keep the right-click context menu open unless I hold down the right mouse button. It only seems to happen in Thunar. I found a solution on another website that involved editing a gtkrc file in ~/.themes/Aurora, but I don't have that pa...

Re: Force fsck at every reboot not working.

In yet another headslap moment, I finally got around to playing with this again, and all I had to do was switch the last field in /etc/fstab for root (the "path" parameter) from 0 to 1 (since I only have one fs). I actually broke down and read the manpage for fstab. A radical solution, I know. So, t...

[SOLVED] Force fsck at every reboot not working.

I want to have my machine do an fsck of root at every reboot, but I'm not sure its doing it. I set the check interval to 1 with: sudo tune2fs -c 1 /dev/hda1 And confirmed that it took with: sudo dumpe2fs -h /dev/sda1 | grep -i 'mount count' But, when I watch the machine boot it gets to the fsck line...

@MikeC, read this link, tom's note mention to check both locations n uuid. perhaps you miss the second location . else, consider liquorix kernel as many reported it to work. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=76789 I corrected the /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume file to match the U...

Mike, Check this post in the LMDE Breakage thread http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=67502&p=438453#p438314 It discusses missing kernel headers with the kernel upgrade and which package to install. Hopefully this fixes the problem for you. I thought I had installed the headers packag...

Re: [SOLVED] Microphones on an HP HDX 16

HOORAY! I FIGURED IT OUT! First, for the HP HDX16, you need to add the following to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: options snd-hda-intel model=hp-hdx Though some HP laptops may also need: options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 The machine has 2 mics, but apparently only 1 is being recognized (I don't kn...

[SOLVED]Lockups on 2.6.39-2-686-pae kernel

(If this is in the wrong place, please let me know) Ever since I went to the 2.6.39-2-686-pae kernel (HP HDX16; Centrino 2/4gig RAM/250meg HDU, running Mint XFCE 201104), once in a while, I've gotten some odd lockups. It happened once switching between XFCE workspaces, and once when the machine had ...
