Re: Microphone not recognised
I was suggesting something to try, I don't know if it will help. You seem to need something which has a control for the microphone input, since it looks as if it is disabled at present. I installed Pavucontrol, but alas, no progress. No hardware input devices are detected - he gives the message &qu...

Re: Microphone not recognised
Hi cwsnyder, I have a speaker icon in the notification area. It looks normal for the Cinnamon desktop. See the screen shot I am attaching now. I have an internal built-in microphone in this laptop. Have not tested if it works in another OS, as I have no other OS installed. However, I have tested plu...

Is the microphone just blocked on mute, or is it not recognised at all?

Re: Skype Freeze in LMDE 64
We can now download and run Skype 4.0.0.8 from skype.com.
Works well so far for me.
(But we should find better (free) alternatives to skype soon)

Re: Microphone not recognised
Actually, the microphone volume control is disabled. If you look closely at Screenshot2.png, you can see that the Input volume control is painted in grey rather than normal colors. So it's not possible to adjust it...

Microphone not recognised
Hi, I installed LMDE on a Toshiba Satellite L870-132 laptop. Works well, except that the microphone is not recognised and doesn't work. If I go to Preferences -> Sound I can see two drivers on the Output tab (Turks/Whistler HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series] Digital Stereo (HDMI), and Built-in Audio...

Hi, I would like to download a copy of the entire Mint 13 repos (both ubuntu-supplied packages and mint additions) to an externlal USB drive. This to help me make offline installations when I am in Niger Republic, where internet connections are poor. Does anyone have good advice on an easy way to se...

Dual monitor / beamer [SOLVED]
I am running LMDE on a Samsung RV711 with an NVidia graphics card.
I can't see how I should go about to activate dual monitors so that I can show a presentation through a beamer on the VGA port. Any advice?
TIA

Re: firewall?
I used to run ZoneAlarm on Windows, but haven't found any similar application-based firewall for linux. So, so far, I'm running nothing... I am just as much interested in having control over what goes out as over what comes in.

Re: Skype Freeze in LMDE 64
Have the same issue. Skype starts, consumes more and more memory until system runs out of swap space. Then skype crashes and is gone. During this process, CPU is 100% busy and computer basically unusable. Takes ca.10 minutes. Some times Skype will work if restarted, but not always. Only happens on o...

Re: Switching from Gnome to XFCE or LXDE [SOLVED]
Indeed, skype for linux is not exactly being updated. Doubt that the purchase will change that.
The main feature I want is the ability to phone adequately over internet connections of low bandwitdh. Saves me on my international calls.

Re: Switching from Gnome to XFCE or LXDE
rtrev, The biggest culprit was apparently skype. I don't know what becomes it, but more often than not, when it starts up, it chews memory until all ram and the entire swap partition are used up, then crashes. This process takes a long time, and during this time, the computer becomes unusable. I hav...
