Re: Sound choppy in KDE

Is there something corresponding for Gnome? My skype's startup sound sounds like its passing through the distorter of a 90's heavy metal band.

Re: Switching from Gnome to XFCE or LXDE

Thanks for the replies. Have installed LXDE, and it works correctly, but booting still takes more than 10 minutes. Specs is a Compaq Presario R3000 with 1GB ram and a 64-bit AMD Athlon 3000+ processor. HD partition available is 46GB, of which 16GB are used. LMDE boots quite quickly until the Desktop...

how to remove Wireless AdHoc net?

Hi, I set up a wireless adhoc network that was "shared to other computers" on my laptop. I no longer need it. How do I remove it and know that it's been removed? I can delete the connection from the wireless tab of the network manager, but have the feeling that this only removes my configu...

Re: Touchpad Tab missing because driver not recognised

Thanks for the advice akela. I hade actually already tried this, setting the TapButton1 option to 0 instead of one (I want to disable it). But neither is the tap-to-click feature disabled, neither does the vertical edge scrolling work. (this last feature is not important to me, but it's still a syst...

Switching from Gnome to XFCE or LXDE [SOLVED]

Hi everyone, I have a laptop that is running a bit slow with the Gnome desktop. Especially when the hard disk works hard, such as the first minute or so after boot, the computer is hardly usable. I thought I'd try lighten it up by switching the Gnome interface to something lighter, XFCE or LXDE. Can...

Re: Messed up my LAN interface

Solved. The trick was to clean up the /etc/network/interfaces file. I reset it to only contain: # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5). # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback a...

Re: Touchpad Tab

Looking at the windows driver on samsung's support site, it seems like the touchpad is synaptics. But it still isn't identified as a touchpad by LMDE (only as a mouse), and therefore I still can't stop the tap-feature from translating into mouse clicks when i am typing on the keyboard and touch it a...

Re: Touchpad Tab

Have now installed Update Pack 3, with the new 3.0 kernel. But I still can't get the touchpad driver to work. My laptop is a Samsung NP-RV711. I still haven't figured out how to install or activate the appropriate driver, as I still don't really know which hardware chip is used in the machine.

Re: (SOLVED) MintMenu won't load wine programs

The MintMenu is also unable to run script files unless they start with #!/bin/bash or something corresponding (depending on the language). I had some personal deb files that installed well under the Gnome menu, but refused to launch from the MintMenu because of this. Could be that this issue is rela...

Re: Do black themes conserve laptop battery?

Some LED screens support 'local dimming' which means that darker themes use less power. But there are also screens that can only dim the whole screen, and not just a group of pixels. Such screens do not consume less power when displaying darker things, just like traditional LCD. Thanks for the clar...

That sounds like the exact same problem. (except my touchpad is physically a simpler design without leds and stuff, just pad and the two buttons).

Re: Touchpad Tab

synclient TouchpadOff=1 To turn it off I tried this, but get the message: $ synclient TouchpadOff=1 Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded? I suspect that it's indeed a problem of a missing driver. Does/did edge scrolling work in Windows?? What system is that?
