Re: XAMPP - Setup a web development environment in Mint Debi

Does apache from the repository run as your own user by default? It's been a long time since I created my set up, I don't remember (and it was never a repository version anyway). If it runs as nobody or some other user (daemon, according to the original httpd.conf from my version), you'll still get ...

Re: XAMPP - Setup a web development environment in Mint Debi

Through browsing the web, xampp seems a suitable choice for development purposes. I have searched xampp using the Software Manager, but it does not seem to be available???? Is this package not stable with Mint Debian? XAMPP/LAMPP contains a number of applications which have been tuned to work toget...

Re: Virtual Box Crashes System with Externa USB Hard Disk

But I cant find 2.6.39.1 in synaptic No, it doesn't seem to be there, using the default repositories for LMDE. Maybe messing with the repository list will bring it up, but I don't consider myself experienced - or lucky - enough to do that. So I have to make it one partition only... or go bac...

Re: Virtual Box Crashes System with Externa USB Hard Disk

Are you using the 2.6.39-2-686-pae kernel?

This seems to be a bit unstable when external USB disks with more than one partition are involved.

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

(Let's see if I can finally get this totally messed up forum to accept a posting... ) Further on this, here is some explanation as regards the terminology, this time in a Bugzilla ticket: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598690 Yup, that's about what I figured. Well, it looks like t...

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

It really does look like there's something seriously wrong with "Safely remove", doesn't it? After the kernel panic I tried all the USB sticks I have (2 and 4 GB, all FAT32). Safely removing them didn't cause any problems. Actually, I'm not sure what the best course of action is. It would ...

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

Curious. I wonder if this is related to this: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=141&t=75848. I'm not sure about the difference between the unmount/remove options, but I think "Safely remove" and "Eject" unmount all mounted partitions on a particular item while "...

Re: LMDE won't boot after update

Did you install the headers, as zerozero suggested? You really do need to install them manually.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.39-2-686-pae

Re: Kernel 2.6.39-2-686-pae panics on unmount of external hd

Could you post the sudo fdisk -l along with the drive you were unmounting, please? Disk /dev/sdb: 640.1 GB, 640135028736 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 77825 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optima...

Kernel 2.6.39-2-686-pae panics on unmount of external hd

Just helped my cousin with a new LMDE installation. Clicked 'Safely remove...' on one of the harddisc icons on the desktop to unmount an external harddisc (Samsung USB portable 640GB with 9 partitions) and got a kernel panic. I figured it probably had something to do with his pc (a Medion) and tried...
