Re: any difference between katya+gnome desktop and lxde edit

I have installed both Mint 11 main and Mint 11 LXDE, as dual boot. And the difference is obvious, LXDE runs clearly faster. But I miss the mint menu. I know I can install it on LXDE along with a lot of Gnome libs, but I'm affraid it will slow LXDE down, therefore the main difference would remain - t...

Re: What are Fast USB 2.0 brands (Flash Memory)

This is my recommendation - TRANSCEND 16GB JetFlash V700 (TS16GJF700).

Although it's usb 3.0, as usb 2.0 it performs - 30 MB read / 20 MB write !!!

It would be nice if someone confirms that problems with AMD APU Brazos platform are better supported now. Acer 722 (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=82681).

Re: Is it possible to make a VERY VERY VERY small Linux Mint

Try this: http://www.browserlinux.com/version3.html BrowserLinux (366 v2) BrowserLinux is a fast and small (77 Mb!) Linux distribution for surfing the web. Web-browser (Firefox 3.6.6 or Google Chrome) Flash 10.1 PDF-reader Music Player (Alsaplayer) Asus Eee: wireless tested on EeePC 900 (see Browser...

Re: Acer Aspire AO522 Wireless Issues

Hi mookster1! I have a similar problem with my Acer 722, it is the same Brazos APU C-50 platform, just a slightly larger screen. I started a thread here > http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=82681 . I haven't tried Mint 10, perhaps I'll wait for 12, with a new kernel 3.0.... which shoul...

Re: Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible?

Worked like a charm. Really there was no need to disable the hard drive. 8) 1st part is 2GB FAT32, 2nd part is 6GB EXT4, no separate swap part, after install and 2 mint updates + proprietary ATI drivers... ext4 is 3GB free. 1st part is auto mounted on boot, so reading/writing is enabled from ...

OK instrandi, I'll try a 2 partitions install (without optional swap p and without separate p for home) and report the progress here. :D

Re: Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible?

The full install to a flash drive was what I was suggesting :D So I did understand your question. I've got a four gig flash drive set up in the method I specified above. Little slow but other than that no qualms. Sorry, I thought you meant hdd install. I wanted to try this, but just to be on...

Re: Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible?

I did a full install (NOT Live USB) to a 4 gig flash drive and it works perfectly  This is total news for me! I never thought that was possible. I'll try this but I'll install it from cd drive (just to avoid confusion of having 2 usbs at the same time) but previously I'll make 2 partitions o...

Re: Acer Aspire One 722, compatible with Mint 11?

couldn't find any topic on this specific netbook For ubuntu based versions, the ubuntu forums are often the better option to search. I found http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1811178 which seems to address most issues. That thread was more than usefull, I'll give it a try... Thanks remoulder!

Re: Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible?

Probably yes? Mandriva´s seed makes 2 partitions "resize me" and "data" http://linux4us.org/mdv_seed.php Yes, I've read this, although it's a solution with 2 partitions and I could live with that (1st fat 32 active+boot+visible for data, 2nd hidden with linux + casper-rw), but it seems this tool ca...

Re: Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible?

Select the install option. Sorry istrandi, it seems you didn't understand my Q  . I don't want to install it on HDD, just run it Live from usb stick but all the changes applied to remain persistent on the flash drive. I already made such a usb (with 1 part), but I want to be able to use the f...

Acer Aspire One 722, compatible with Mint 11?

This great little netbook is based on: AMD Brazos platform APU C-50, 2GB of RAM, 500GB hdd, 11.6" screen, 6-cell battery, HDMI out  ... and with Win7 Starter preinstalled :? . I must admit Starter works great, especially the hdmi out support in which case this little fellow serves me as a med...

Install lxsession-edit. . Thanks, it was already there. Upon typing lxsession-edit, a screen appeared, thanks seppalta. I have also installed Mint Menu (couldn't live without it) and I noticed a minor slowdown in responsiveness, but it's bareble, considering the benefits :D . One thing more left re...

Mint 11 on a 8GB flash with 3 partitions, possible? [SOLVED]

Hi guys! Is there some tutorial on how should I make something like this: USB bootable and persistant flash drive devided into 3 partitions: 1. FAT32, 4GB, for personal files, should be seen from Win and Mint 2. FAT16, 800 MB, hidden, active, for Live Mint iso files (invisible from windows) 3. EXT2,...

Re: A couple of questions...

1. Black screen with no logo during live boot and later on every hard disk boot. Is there a solution for this? What would you want instead of the black screen? You can have boot messages there, or a logo. To show boot messages, edit /etc/default/grub and remove quiet splash from GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_...

A couple of questions...

Hi! I had Mint 11 installed on one partition. On my PC (P3 2,4 ghz, 1 gb ram) it ran slow, especially Firefox with more than 10 tabs opened. Also when I clicked on menu, it used to react almost 1 second later. :? So I decided to install, on a second partition as dual boot, Mint 9 XFCE, it ran faster...
