Re: Applets

OK. After testing I need to say that downgrading compiz might be the solution. I restored default system, didn't turn on any flashy things and so far - not even one applet crashed.
Also - no other problems. Everything runs perfectly, precisely, exactly... fine.

Thanks for that tip!

Re: Applets

http://www.webupd8.org/2011/05/how-to-downgrade-to-compiz-086-in.html Looks very interesting. Giving it a try now... Downgrading it was a great idea. Not all problems are fixed. For example - If I select other (mouse) pointer than standard white - it works only sometime and system is doing what it ...

Re: Applets

Not much we can do if it is a Gnome bug. Yes, change distros if you want, or try Mint 10, or do like me, stick with the Mint 9 LTS versions . . . Look at the number of related/duplicate bugs (linked on the right side) : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/439448 I will scan i...

Re: Applets

Any errors in the hidden text file .xsession-errors in your home folder ? Not much now, but: Today it took me 8 times to start Mint... I am starting to look with more favour at FreeBSD and Red Hat /etc/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... Setting IM through im-switch for locale=en_GB. Start IM ...

Re: Applets

Ouch! Something isn't right! :? Did you try Clem's workaround at the top of the Known Issues in the Katya release notes? Do you mean that advice from links you included me in first reply ? Yes, I did. Still now changes... although random system crashes stopped. Really made me mad so I kicked-out co...

Re: Applets

This is really hopeless...
With or without compiz (removed)
With or without compositing on
With full options or in basic mode

KEEPS CRASHING.

Does anyone have any idea? I tried everything and restarted over 50 times.

There was no issue on Julia... Maybe it's also in headers?

Yep... compiz is certainly causing problems on my machine but it's a bit more complicated. Just tried to switch to Metacity

Thanks.

Will have a look.

I am also experiencing problems with "system logout". Usually it happens when I start terminal. System shows black screen and goes back to login page.

Split mint-meta-gnome & mint-meta-gnome-dvd

Not a revolutionary idea but will help a lot. Both of those packages carry a lot of useful software but some of us like total ergonomy and usability... ans so - after fresh installation I am always removing program that I will never use. Software like pidgim, tomboy, etc. gets removed to not sit in ...

Re: Warning! TOR destroys Linux Mint!

I am afraid it does. We are talking about different issues. I am not only talking about usage and slow bandwidth which I am familiar with . Tor installs itself in the system and start up with it and that's when the problems are beginning. When it come to using - there are no problem. It must be chan...

Warning! TOR destroys Linux Mint!

I was wondering what am I doing wrong that after a time my Mint is going for full re-installation. Well - yesterday I found out. If I (you?) install Tor Project with polipo, vidalia, problems start after restart. Massive problems. Graphics go low, icons are changed, windows start to fade, system cra...

Re: Mint 11, 64bit - often crashes

It seems that I found a solution. My strong advice for anyone who’s system is crashing is to reinstall it this way: 1) backup your data and if you don't have it yet - split system and /home partitions 1a) empty your rubbish bin 2) stick in Katya Cd and fire up live version 3) use gparted, format pro...
