Re: UPDATE PACK 3 FEEDBACK THREAD

I found out today that the vbox driver did not upgrade properly so that my Windows 7 VirtualBox VM would not run. I had to open a terminal and type in the following in order to patch the updated vbox driver to the kernel: sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup Note: I installed the non-free version of Virt...

Re: Kernel 2.6.39-2-686-pae panics on unmount of external hd

I, for one, don't get a kernel panic when I click on "Safely remove drive" to unmount an external 2TB HDD, but a system freeze. All I can do is a hard reset. Thankfully this incurs no data loss on the external drive, which leads me to think that it is indeed successfully unmounted before the freeze....

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 2 july 2011

Hello Clem,

Many thanks for the update! This may sound like a dumb question, but in an effort to minimize further breakages and disruptions and ensure optimal compatibility with LMDE, are the new monthly "update packs" going to be somehow tested or QA'ed before they are released to the users?

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

Further on this, here is some explanation as regards the terminology, this time in a Bugzilla ticket: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598690 "Now for a thorough explanation of why we currently have these three options - Unmount - Eject - Safely remove drive for a normal USB stick or USB c...

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

OK it looks like a Debian bug has already been filed for the behaviour I mentioned in my previous post (Nautilus unmounting and mounting back straight away):

Re: Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

Hey grizzler, That's interesting, thanks. So "Safely remove" is not so "safe" after all? Actually I tried to "safely remove" an NTFS 8GB thumb drive yesterday, all it did is unmount it and remount it straight away..I was however able to successfully "Unmount" it from the desktop icon. Any oth...

Safely remove / Unmount / Eject Volume: NTFS Issues

Hello, Yesterday I mounted an external NTFS 2TB HDD without any hitch. I was able to copy files over to my /home directory. As I went to click on the volume icon on the desktop to eject it, only "Safely remove" was available. I did not do it and went into Nautilus instead. I right-clicked on the vol...

Re: USB 3G Mobile Broadband intermittently disppears on (re)

Hey vrkalak, Thanks a lot. Could it be due to network-manager? I ahve vesion 0.8.4 installed, which I believe is the latest in squeeze. My desktop is Gnome 2.3, I don't know what else to do.. Also, the device may be *sometimes* detected if disconnected and plugged into another USB port, so it works ...

USB 3G Mobile Broadband intermittently disppears on (re)boot

Hello, I installed LMDE about a week ago on a system along with Windows XP as a dual boot and I let GRUB manage the boot sequence. I recently upgraded the kernel to 2.6.39 PAE. Thanks to frequent updates with apt-get dist-upgrade and apt-get update, I understand that my system is fully up to date. M...
