deepak,
based on what I posted, what do you think is going on? Is this a hardware issue (unfixable... boohoo) or a software issue (fixable... yahoo)?

Re: How can I figure out why one USB port on laptop isn't working?

I don't know the age of your Thinkpad, but some have had problems. Is your ThinkPad's USB-C port not working? Upgrade its firmware. My E570 is not in the linked list. A portion of inxi -Fxz is below. Machine: Type: Laptop System: LENOVO product: 20H5009HUS v: ThinkPad E570 serial: <filter> Mobo: LE...

How can I figure out why one USB port on laptop isn't working?

My Thinkpad has 3 usb ports. One USB port doesn't seem to work . I plugged in a mouse there and it doesn't work. But the mouse works in the two other USB ports. How can I tell why this USB port isn't working? Same thing can be said when I plug in my ereader. The ereader doesn't work in ProblemPort b...

adding a script to PATH

I installed a program via pip and the terminal says that the script... is installed in '/home/me/.local/bin' which is not on PATH. Consider adding this directory to PATH or, if you prefer to suppress this warning, use --no-warn-script-location. How do I add the script to "PATH"? I'm on Cin...

Re: command to break down folder & subfolders by (A) size per file extension and (B) total size per extension [solved]

hi xenopeek, i was having inaccurate numbers (for number of files per extension). I shared your code with someone else and he suggested deleting the part about making things "neat" with the numfmt. He suggested using just the raw format. Here's his suggested code: find -type f -name \*\.\*...

Re: command to break down folder & subfolders by (A) size per file extension and (B) total size per extension [solved]

apparently python's an easy (relatively) to learn language and it's practical too. It'll help automate stuff. :)
The book appears to have won high praise. It's called Head First Python. And it's got lots of full-color pictures and illustrations!!! :) :) So excited. Ha ha.

Re: want a command to break down folder & subfolders by (A) size per file extension and (B) total size per file extensio

Thank you so much, xenopeek. You not only answered my question, but you also anticipated further questions, for example, "What about files without a file extension".

I'm on hold for a python book from the library and maybe it will help me be a better computer user.

command to break down folder & subfolders by (A) size per file extension and (B) total size per extension [solved]

I have a folder containing many subfolders of stuff. Let's say it's /home/me/hodgepodge/ Is there a command I can run which will breakdown the contents in two ways A) total size per file extension B) number of files per file extension Let's say I don't want to manually type each file extension in th...

Note to self: Read everything on the thread before implementing the first unread reply. :D I've never lost anything running that command but if you have...open Timeshift and choose a Snapshot you created before you ran my command and everything should be restored. https://www.picgifs.com/emoticons/...

--password-store=basic means store password in plain text. Do you really want to do this .
I'm okay with passwords being stored in plain text on my laptop. Because I have ecrpyt enabled for the entire Linux Mint system as a safeguard anyway.

Re: How can we stop Chrome from asking for the "keyring" password? I'm sole user of my laptop.

I did what bob466 suggested and ran rm ~/.local/share/keyrings/* . The good news is that Chrome and Chrome Beta no longer ask for a keyring password. The bad news is what Rene predicted: I lost all my Chrome passwords. Oh well, I have them saved somewhere. Lol. I was too hasty and just saw bob466's ...

Re: How can we stop Chrome from asking for the "keyring" password? I'm sole user of my laptop.

Ah, I'm sorry that I wasn't clear in my OP.

I want that "keyring" prompt to stop, but I:
1. Don't want to remove all my website passwords
2. Want to still be logged into my Google Account/Sync.

I installed Google Chrome Stable from https://www.google.com/chrome/ for my Mint 20 Cinnamon. I installed the deb there. I would have preferred to install Chromium, but i gave up trying with Mint 20. (Easier to install in previous Mint versions... just go to synaptic or terminal and install chromium...

hi rene.
thanks for your comment.

In this program, there are 2 blanks.
I've uploaded a screenshot with blank 1 and blank 2 noted.
What should I put in each blank?
