Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter [solved]

I'm really relieved. My attempt to make a nice and working ThinkPad out of two nice - but half broken ThinkPads ended in a complete fiasco. As a result, the fate of your ThinkPad has been very close to my heart. Thanks. I still don't understand what exactly the problem is, nor do I understand how m...

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

Wed May 9 10:18:30 PDT 2018 The laptop is working again. Just 10 minutes ago, I tried to power it on. I plugged in AC power, and pressed the power button, but it wouldn't power on. I then removed battery, and then unplugged AC cord from laptop, then plugged in power cord again to laptop while pressi...

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

I have an update. Last Wednesday, I got some tech people to help me with this problem. They got me to replace the CMOS battery. They had a container full of CMOS batteries taken from other laptops. I put one of these other batteries in. I also tried to be mindful of several things: --shut down compu...

laptop's built-in mic not working anymore [solved]

Using Mint Cinnamon 18.3. My ThinkPad T430 comes with an all-in-one audio jack. It can accept a stereo earphone jack (2 rings on metal tip), or it can also work with a combo mic-and-ear audio jack (3 rings on metal tip). I use my earphones for the most. I use the mic-and-ear combo unit only once in ...

Replace the mobo.
If the mobo needs to be replaced, I'll just get another laptop. This laptop cost me $180USD when I bought it in Summer 2017. I hear a mobo could be half htat price, and who knows whether a replacement mobo will last

Re: Can no longer resuscitate ThinkPad by removing CMOS battery, laptop batt, AC adapter

Let me be clear.I hear no beeps before this problem... Well, of course not, under normal operating conditions you wouldn't. But now something is certainly different than before, right? OK. I was just stating this clarification to say that I hear no beeps now (laptop not working) and no beeps before...

The power button is on the keyboard. If the keyboard is unplugged, powering on or off is definitely not gonna work. :)

Here is a pic of the rear of my audio system. https://i.imgur.com/7jIk8GJ.png Now... Your cell phone does not have RCA ports, lol. But it probably has a headphone jack. Yes, it does have a headphone jack. Once you figure out which specific part would have been included from the factory if you'd paid...

Re: How can I set a default DNS address (including IPv6 DNS address) for all wifi and wired networks?

Click your desktop network manager icon. Select Network connections Highlight either the Ethernet or WiFi connection and click edit. Click IPv4 Settings Enter your preferred DNS service numbers into the boxes. Click save and restart your network manager. Done. There's a IPv6 tab there too, never do...

How can I set a default DNS address (including IPv6 DNS address) for all wifi and wired networks?

With whatever wifi or wired network I'm on, I want the default DNS servers to be preset to 1.1.1.1 's servers. They're supposedely the fastest. Rather than manually and tediously setting up each network. Can I set up my Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3 to have 1.0.0.1 as the DNS address, and 2606:4700:4700:...

How can I play my smartphone's music in a car that has just radio/CD? (pic included)

A car comes with this basic audio system.

It comes with a CD slot, FM and AM. But it can't play the stuff from my Android smartphone. What are the options to make use of the car's speakers? Prefer an inexpensive solution.

P.S. The car is a 2008 Toyota Yaris.

A GUI/Nemo way to run a command on xyz.file (or on several selected files)

A command I run through the terminal is ffmpeg -framerate 6 -loop 1 -i orange.png -i Voice102.ogg -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -c:a copy -shortest voice102.mkv The purpose of this command is to convert an audio-only file (e.g. Voice102.ogg) into a movie file. Someone knowledgeable about ffmpeg gave...

How can I use Google Maps in a dark/night mode

Hi all. So my Linux Mint OS on a dark theme. My Firefox browser's "chrome" is also using a dark theme. I have an extension called Dark Background and Light Text that turns virtually every page into a night-mode page. But still, Google Maps bright and white. I want my Google Maps to look something li...
