Needing some help with a regex question

I'm trying to use regex for fixing author names in my library. If there is an author named John Q. Public I'd like it changed to John Q Public . (Remove dots) If the name is A. B. Charles I'd like it changed to AB Charles . (Remove the dots, as above, but also any space between initials) Thanks. UPD...

Re: What are the benefits of doing a fresh-install of Mint 20 VS upgrading from 19.3?

LEt me put it this way. Mint 19 to 20 is essentially an upgrade of the underlying Ubuntu core from 1804 to 2004. Ubuntu has not yet opened up that upgrade, and usually wait a good 6 months before doing so. So do you feel lucky, punk? I don't follow. Mint 19 has Ubuntu Core 1804 and Mint 20 has Ubun...

Does Mint 20 installer have an option to do full-disk encryption?

https://www.linuxmint.com/rel_ulyana_cinnamon.php says
Benchmarks have demonstrated that, in most cases, home directory encryption is slower than full disk encryption.

When i install Mint 20, is there an option to choose full-disk encryption, and will it be easy for a newbie to spot?

Ask yourself--why do I feel the need for LM20? And why now?--especially since LM19.3 still has years of support remaining.
If there is a compelling reason then consider a fresh install.
Because new Mint is nicer than old Mint :)

Not a compelling reason, perhaps.

What are the benefits of doing a fresh-install of Mint 20 VS upgrading from 19.3?

What are the benefits of doing a fresh-install of Mint 20 VS upgrading from 19.3? Would there be any differences between the 2 (besides having all personal files / installed programs wiped clean when doing a fresh install)? I ask because when I upgraded from 19.X to 19.X+1, I had a problem that was ...

Re: For privacy, how can I randomize my MAC address before connecting to wifi?

An ISP I connect to has wifi hotspots scattered throughout the city, and even wider than that. I want to keep my internet activity private from the ISP. Yes, they'll know my activity during Session X, but if I randomize my MAC address, they won't know that Session Y and Session Z are also me.

For privacy, how can I randomize my MAC address before connecting to wifi?

When I log into my Mint 19.3 Cinnamon desktop, I turn off the wifi (using the applet by the lower right corner, near the clock), then open the terminal, and run sudo macchanger -r -a wlp5s0 . How can I automate this? On my Android 10 Samsung phone, the phone randomizes my MAC address before connecti...

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

hi rene,

I'm now at the "Remove Encryption" section. I ran sudo rm -rf /home/pepperminty but it says
rm: cannot remove '/home/pepperminty': Device or resource busy
In case you're wondering, I'm logged into the temporary account I've just created a minute ago.

Re: How can I go directly from the crypt password to my desktop, bypassing username/password screen?

How can I undo home-disk encryption while keeping full-disk encryption? I read somewhere that it's better to have full-disk encryption, rather than home-disk encryption.
