From wear and tear, my phone case is fraying. What can I do to strengthen/shield the case from wear and tear?

I bought a flip case for my phone. I've had it for two months now. The corners and edges are starting to lose their coating/thingamajiggie. Pics are here: https://imgur.com/a/15HCLXC I think they get frayed from all the times I put it into my pocket or backpack or whatever. They just rub off gradual...

I want to search multilple library catalogs at once

I would like to search six libraries at one time. Is there a way I could create a simple webpage or whatnot so that I could type in my search word once and then have six different libraries' search engines running at the same time with the same search word? I have in mind SearchTempest, but much muc...

Re: How to shorten time my Toshiba laptop waits for me to press the F12 key to change boot-up sequence or enter BIOS?

Looks like this Toshiba laptop does have "faster boot". It still gives a chance to boot from USB, though. So it's all good.

Re: How to shorten time my Toshiba laptop waits for me to press the F12 key to change boot-up sequence or enter BIOS?

What you're looking for is called fast boot. Shaves a couple seconds off the boot time (whoopie!) by skipping initialization of some hardware components. Note this usually means you lose USB boot and external monitor. Seems like a poor trade to me, but it's your computer. I only boot from USB when ...

[Solved] wanna shorten time Toshiba laptop waits for me to press the F12 key to change boot-up sequence or enter BIOS?

I've just fresh-installed Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon on my Toshiba laptop. I'd like to speed up the process from Power-On to Ready-For-Action. One thing I've thought about is decreasing the period of time in which my computer waits a few seconds for me to press the F12 key to change boot-up sequence o...

[solved] Question1: How can I verify whether my Mint is encrypted? Q2: Verify whether home folder is encrypted?

I've just fresh-installed Mint 19.3 Cinnamon on my laptop.

Question 1. How can I confirm whether the entire Linux Mint is encrypted?
Question 2: How can I confirm whether my /home/ folder is encrypted?

Re: How can I fresh-install latest mint without a flash drive/DVD, and just the one SDD that currently has mint?

You're gonna want someone with experience dealing with these partitions or this is going to be a total headache. Okay, let's wait for them to chime in. Are you capable with lvm management? With some guidance/instructions, yes. Can you get into some network backup scheme? Probably not a feasible opt...

Re: How can I fresh-install latest mint without a flash drive/DVD, and just the one SDD that currently has mint?

Sorry, but I'm afraid I don't completely track what you said in your last post. My laptop has only one drive: a 222.2 GB SSD drive. Basically, after the fresh installation is finished, I want to end up with partitions as though I used a flashdrive/DVD to install. I want to make space for this ISO on...

Thanks zcot for giving me the simplified instructions.

There are a bunch of personal files that I'd like to keep/transfer over to the fresh-installed Mint. Must I back them up first (like to my Google drive)?

Re: will there be a day when we can do a fresh install of Linux mint without a flash drive/USB stick?

Neat! Never heard of that before.

I just googled [grub iso boot] and to[ result is https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/ISOBoot

Will that work for me, a mint 19 cinnamon user?

Update: I added the words Linux mint into the search and got

How can I fresh-install latest mint without a flash drive/DVD, and just the one SDD that currently has mint?

Do you think one day that we can do a fresh-install of Linux mint or other distributions without a USB stick/DVD?

The only time it seems I need a flash drive is for a fresh install of the latest version of Linux mint. for everything else I just send my files to the cloud.

Deepak,
If I could find one, I'd use one. :)
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, my S9's variant can't be rooted. I rooted my other phones. Wish I could with this S9 too. Guess I need to find a 1GB USB stick.

Can I set up my Android phone as my "Live Install" bootable USB stick?

I want to fresh-install Mint 19.3 onto my laptop. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 running Android Pie and it has a microSD in it. Can I use the phone's internal storage or the microSD to install Mint 19.3 on my laptop, if I connect the phone to my laptop by USB?
