19.3 Running Cooler Than Previous Releases?

I've noticed my desktop with 19.3 Mate seems to run up to about 10 degrees cooler than previous releases. Wondering if anyone else is having this experience? I can't really say all things are equal with the various releases because maybe it's the time of year or maybe the setup and something tweaked...

Re: Mate vs Cinnamon

Stick with Cinnamon then. I prefer Mate. Tried Cinnamon a couple of times over the years but been a good long while. Cinnamon just wasn't as stable as Mate was for me at the time. Besides, I came from XP and Mate seemed to be a great replacement. Maybe Mate doesn't "glitter and pop", maybe seems pla...

Re: There is no Boot from USB option

There is no boot from USB option. The Bios does not allow me to pick a boot option. Enter UEFI (BIOS) through pressing ESC. In 'Boot' tab: 'Disable Fastboot'. Press F10 to save & exit. Immediately press ESC again and in 'Boot' tab: your USB drive should be listed - change the order. Press F10 to sa...

While I do like the System Report application, I'd rather see it as on demand and not constantly running in the background.
You can disable or remove it from your startup applications the usual way for your desktop environment (they all have their own GUI tool for that).
Ah Ha ... thanks

Re: There is no Boot from USB option

I have a Fusion5 T50 with an Atom processor and have Mint Mate installed. It previously had Win10. With the USB stick in one of the USB ports, restart the computer and press the ESC button (not F1 or F2) ... not too fast and not too many times, or you may get a menu other than BIOS. Play with it. An...

Re: Mint 19.3: Set The Root Password "Nag Screen"

I like the system reports too. Haven't received any additional System Report notifications since installing 19.3 Mate and dealing with the 3 prompts. As to the setting of root password, I had what I thought was a weird instance. Before installing 19.3 Mate, I was running 19.2 Mate and Update Manager...

Re: tried to install elementary, but i got linux mint instead?

I'm actually impressed. Don't think I could have done that in a million years if I tried. But if it did happen, think I'd start over with fresh installation media of one operating system or the other and make sure during the installation that the option for "Erase Disk" is selected.

Re: HP printer will not actually print

I'm happy for you that you were able to sort it out Pensioner77. Well done and it must be quite a relief. I wish I could tell you what you might try to ensure it doesn't happen again. Probably some accumulation on the rollers and paper path but may not be easy to get to for cleaning with alcohol swa...

Re: HP printer will not actually print

I followed the suggestion of printing a test page but with the same result. I am thinking that the problem is mechanical That is a failiar of the printer to pick up paper from the tray. Thank you everyone for your support.l Not working with either operating system could, of course, be an indication...

Re: is 19.3 tricia ready for prime time?

Running Mate with no burps, gurgles, bumps, glitches, bells, whistles, flags or hissy fits. Ok, but what about the OS? The ONLY thing I ran into was speaker "pops" on my desktop (when shutdown, startup or initiating any soundfile local or on the web). Lapbook audio is fine ... prolly diff...

Running Mate with no burps, gurgles, bumps, glitches, bells, whistles, flags or hissy fits. That's even with the computer turned on.
EDIT: Did a clean fresh install

Re: Screen of Doom: Desktop Crashes Randomly

Perhaps to help eliminate the nVidia driver as the culprit, go to the Driver Manager (found under Administration in the Menu). From the Driver Manager, select the nouveau (open source) display driver rather than the nVidia driver. Restart the computer.

Re: HP printer will not actually print

iIt affects both OS and it is enabled Since it doesn't work with either operating system, I think the first thing to do is try and verify the printer is working properly. That verification can be done via the printer control panel. Once the printer is powered on ... press and hold the control panel...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping

You are misunderstanding the flag: parm: power_save_controller:Reset controller in power save mode. (bool) Okay, so the controller (Y) is more like a persistence than an enable (feels like I'm not finding the right word), regarding the state of power save, I guess. The link I posted earlier suggest...

Re: Mint v19.3 audio popping

Gotcha. Looks like you were correct about 4.15: scott@scott-HP ~ $ cat /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save_controller Y scott@scott-HP ~ $ cat /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save 0 My 19.3 install is in a VM and doesn't use snd-hda-intel, so no equivalent parameters there. C...
