Re: Mate not ready for prime time

Even though I'm back to up and running wonderfully in Mint 11 ... I hate (yes, a strong word LOL) that MATE is kicking my butt and want to try and resolve any hardware/software conflicts. SOoooo ... I'm going to give it another try after posting this. Maybe my display can be tweaked in BIOS and mayb...

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

Thanks qhris. I don't know that tweaking would help with my situation. Mint13 just doesn't work out of the box on this machine. I do have an older Dell desktop in the closet. It's newer than what I'm using, but it too is the same generation 2.8GHZ processor. I may give it a try tomorrow. The differe...

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

I reinstalled Mint 13 MATE and ONLY updated level 1 & 2 recommendations Result : Still experienced high resource usage manifest as display anomalies. I gave Mint 13 XFCE a try and the initial reaction was I had time-warped back to Windows 95/98. Never-the-less, I gave it a try. Result : I experience...

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

About your problem, did you check with md5sum that the ISO image you used to install Linux Mint was not corrupted? No I didn't check the md5sum. I'm not sure how to without installing an application to do so. I did download and image two different ISO files, one through torrent and one via a downlo...

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

Oh and the two replies in this thread thusfar just prove my point about little help with problems.
I guess I should take the advice, wad up my big girl panties, cry and go back to Windows. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

I have installed and reinstalled MATE about 1/2 a dozen time over the past two days. RIGHT NOW ... it is absolutely a DEFAULT install with NOTHING tweaked ... theme is default and everything. I've downloaded and installed level 1-3 updates and updated all installed packages that are Upgradable Upstr...

Re: Mate not ready for prime time

There's nothing wrong with my computer. As I said, Mint 11 is AWESOME !!! ... Mint 13 not so much. I built my computer by hand. I used an Intel motherboard. Yes it is older ... but Mint 13 is the ONLY OS I've EVER had any problems with . I use the oboard, LAN, sound AND graphics. I'm NOT a gamer and...

Mate not ready for prime time

Two days and about 1/2 a dozen reinstalls later. I'm so frustrated and disappointed with Mint13Mate. Any theme I use ends up using too much CPU and display becomes FUBAR. Tried just sticking with Mint-X and Mint-Z and it helped A LITTLE but still had times of high CPU and messed up display. Mint 11 ...

Re: No Google Search engine available for Firefox 14.0.1?

On the right side of the tool bar, click on the arrow (pointing down) beside the search engine icon and select "Manage search Engines". In the box that comes up ... click on "Get more search engines". On the page that comes up, scroll to the bottom of the page and note "Commercial Engines", with var...

Re: Mint 13 (MATE) Display problems (High CPU related)

Have decided the problems are not Display Driver related AT ALL. The anomalies occur because of very high CPU usage as reported by Mate-System-Monitor. It shows that M-S-M ITSELF is using sometimes AT LEAST as high as 86 percent. I'm pretty sure after doing some checking around, that the problem is ...

Re: Mint 13 (MATE) Display problems

UPDATE: After opening Synaptic Package Manager, downloading and installing all the Upgradable (upstream) packages ... rebooting several times throughout the day ... display seems to be functioning normally right now. I also unchecked Gnome Compositing in Desktop Settings. Will keep an eye on it.

Re: [solved] Lost. Please hold my hand on this

Thanks for the responses guys. If I get bored, I'll give 'em a try. Since I couldn't figure out how to get it working after several days ... I "dumbed" everything back down ... made security the highest priority on both machines and changed settings back to "tighter than dicks hat band" LOL and thus...

Re: Lost. Please hold my hand on this

Thanks Reorx for providing thoughts and alternatives. I really appreciate it. I did a little research on print servers and found most are limited to print function only. My printer is an old USB HP Officejet 6110 with scanner and fax. I think what I will do since I don't print a whole lot is just us...

Re: Lost. Please hold my hand on this

No help available ?? Do I need to try a windoze forum or something ??

I did install apache2.2-bin and libapache2-mod-dnssd to get rid of the file sharing message. Still, no network.
