Re: Do You Optimize Mint For An SSD Drive ??

Thanks guys !!! Apparently it's still necessary to optimize for SSD and I find Pjotrs tips to be indispensable. Not only are they pertinent but are concise and well written so that anyone can understand. BRAVO Pjotr !!! Hopefully one day, Mint installation will auto detect and optimize for SSD ... i...

Re: 19.2 and RTX 2060

I'm not using the beta. https://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/583 I'm using that. 19.1 was no better. Secure Boot is disabled. I suppose I'll take my questions elsewhere. Sorry for annoying this community. :D ... whoa. What's with the attitude? Now, take a look at the link you just posted. On th...

Re: 19.2 and RTX 2060

Being new to Mint, why start with a possibly buggy beta release (19.2)? Beta releases are for experienced users to run through the paces to find any issues. Not for newbs. Why not install the latest stable release, 19.1? That said, 19.2 should release soon as a stable release. Regardless which versi...

Do You Optimize Mint For An SSD Drive ??

What is the level of concern for installing Mint on a desktop SSD drive? ... Possible answers (?): - Install as you would on any drive - Ideally the SSD drive should be optimized (For example, as per Easy Linux Tips Project ... https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/ssd.html ) - Depends on whic...

Cool !!! And I agree, Mate is best ;)
Now replace the hard drive on your "ancient and decrepit" computer with an SSD drive and you'll think you have a brand new computer.

Look on the right of the toolbar, after the URL (address) box. There should either be an "X" - to stop page load OR a "Circle with an arrow" - for page refresh. There will only be one icon, either "X" and "Circle with arrow". If you do not find it, check under...

Re: Beginner Help?

I agree 100% with WharfRat. I've been running Linux Mint for about nine years now and not once have had any ANY security related issues. I too am behind a router/WiFi firewall and the firewall just has default configuration. If I use the gufw firewall, I just use default settings.

I see you are running Intel Graphics. I am too. I had display issues until I read a couple of threads and made some adjustments. See riffbiker reply about halfway down the page at this link, especially his post "ADDENDUM: 8 August 2016" ... https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=2269...

Re: Kernel 4.15.0-24 won't boot passed grub - Mint 19 Mate

Pretty much the same as MarkFreese. I did try a jump from the 20 kernel to the 24 kernel, bypassing the 23 kernel completely and still had boot problems. 24 acted nicer longer if I installed 23 first, but in the end, still had boot problems. I'm running a Mint Box 2 i-5 with onboard Intel graphics. ...

It ain't ugly y'all. Not at all. I had a girl like that once. so I know. Linux Mint (Mate) is BEAUTIFUL !!! I run the theme Mate installs with, except the wallpaper (Juergen Colorful Stone) and even that is from a previous Mint release. And I uninstall Compiz and disable compositing. I only need a c...

AHHhhhh !!! ... no wonder I got an update failed message. Maybe because I'm currently running in UEFI instead of Bios?
Think I'll break out Timeshift and see what kind of pain I can run into there LOL

Always have a liveUSB available and you're good. Yep ... I've reloaded LM-19 Mate a few times now from liveUSB ;) LOL ... but I get your point, sir ... whether or not that means anything to someone new to mint dunno . I'm retired and have lots of time to while away with stuff. LM19 Mate is stable a...

I don't think that's something they want on the front-page to scare people off I think. And was just gonna say my usual about -24 having been removed days ago, but no mirror can really be that slow so I just checked and apparently Canonical re-added the kernel to the repositories, both xenial and b...

Yep, I figured that gm10. Just wanted to play with it I guess. Sometimes it would boot normally and sometimes not. Sometimes when it didn't boot normally and I tried to get to the grub menu in order to boot an earlier kernel ... it would give me a grub menu "if it wanted to" or maybe not o...

Re: Rollback to Linux Kernel & Linux Firmware Prior to MeltDown & Spectre Fix

I followed the advice on the linux Mint Blog ... "Security notice: Meltdown and Spectre" ... https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3496 Haven't noticed any performance loss or problems. That said, you could use the Update Manager (toolbar: VIEW > Linux Kernels) to list/view Linux Kernels ... those...
